Location: GA USA | That looks like it could be fun. I just did a little project for a friend of a friend, and after not knowing what to charge, I just told her to get me an Oscar Schmidt OU5 with hard case.

After seeing/hearing that Jake dude playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I was impressed. Might be good Luthier practice to build one of them things. But if I get any spare time, I play my guitar. I don't really have time to build anything.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Ukulele is like anal sex. Some people love it, some people are disgusted by it. Take my wife for example. She absolutely hates the ukulele. Just thinks it's the stupidest thing you could imagine. How ironic, since I play uke 90% of the time vs. guitar and there are about a dozen of the little suckers hanging around the house. Dave |

Tup, I saw an OU5 in your collection, so I figured it couldn't be all bad, and I wanted koa for nostalgic reasons after visiting Hawai'i. I probably should have asked you about it first. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | OU5 is a VERY nice ukulele for the money. It has a deeper body than most ukes (I call it a jazz box). The stock strings are pretty bad. Put on a nice set of Aquila stings and you'll be happy. Dave |

Location: Hicksville, NY | I was never into ukes in the beginning, until I saw what fellow OFCers can do with them -- make very good music! Also, every child that I work with loves playing with a ukelele, that I carry (at least) one to work everyday. It keeps him/her from grabbing my guitar and doing all sorts of odd stuff that could break it during music sing-a-long sessions. |

Location: GA USA | Since I'm not planning to pay hundreds for a uke, the OU5 suits me fine. It came yesterday. It's really pretty, and the OS hard case is really nice. I may be most impressed with the case.
Tuppy, should I tune the G an octave (-2) below the A?
I notice on the Breakdown tab that it says "low G"
Edited: Now I see... Aquilla makes a Low G set. Please advise, someone. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | If you buy a "normal" string set,the G is tuned octave high (my dog has fleas). You'll need to buy a "Low G" string set to tune like a guitar (capo'd at 5th fret).

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Or you could get a tacoma papoose. Similar, it's like having a capo at the 5th fret and you get 6 strings. It has a mando like quality, not uke like. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Personal opinion, Low G tuning opens up a wider pitch range which is maybe good if you are playing lead melody. But for strumming chords or playing lead lines in chord shapes, the low G loses the "ukulele sound". To me low G sounds like a classical guitar capo'd at the 5th. I currently do not use low G on any of my ukes. Dave |
