While I did not receive an Adamas I or other incredible instrument from Ups today, I did have a brown box at my door!

Contents: one unfinished Deacon 12 string neck
one chrome 12 string bridge with posts
12 mini tuners with associated hardware and pearloid buttons
Logo and B/W/B TRC with screws
Some extra pieces that an attentive Customer Service Dude would know I needed but never got around to ask for.
Some extra items just for fun

I cannot start to describe the feeling of excitement I had as I unwrapped this unfinished but marvelous piece of craftsmanship that had been sitting on a shelf waiting for me to receive it for some 20 or more years. The frets are in but need the edges finished and leveled. the wood is bare and needs final shaping and finish.

As I consider that the hands that formed this have probably since retired and that I get to continue this work I just think its too cool!

Cool! Are you building a Deacon 12 string? Not many of those bad boys around. Could always use a few more.

Yes, the Resurected six string Deacon bodied Breadwinner necked unit will receive the 12 string neck and bridge package. Since it will have an oiled neck, koa pickguard, re-deranged knobs and Air Norton Pups it will have a lower resale but a higher Owner appreciation value!

Then I need to address some details with the Sunburst "05" Deacon 12 and put it up for sale. I intend to offer it with a P/G ala Phat Cats and another with Original Pups.

Since my Bride and I are celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary soon I am wondering what kind of guitar to get us!

For our 10th, I let my wife buy herself an engagement ring. It's a wonder she's kept me another 18 years. I'd go for a 1995 of anything Ovation. Never worked for me, but I'm still trying for a 1977. Maybe a 30th anniversary edition for our 30th.

It is alive!

Finished the Deacon 12 conversion project today and I have been playing and bonding with her. Been going between the glossy sunburst 12 and this one with the oiled neck.
playing wise its a toss. To look at it though the oiled neck is luscious!

I guess since I have two now I will have to get rid of one...

Pictures to follow.

Congratulations Michael!!!

can't wait to see the pictures.

re: "It is alive"

Rick(aka Chatman) has revived the PD for me as well(thanks also to BruDev for his vast knowledge and provision of a suitable replacement pot). It is being shipped back to me this week.

can't wait to have the old guy back home.

God Bless,

Glenn

re: It's alive

Well, I went 1 for 2 in this one. I was able to get Glenn's functional but I'm afraid MWoody's didn't turn out so well. I fixed a bit of damaged PC circuitry. For future reference to those intrepid souls that might try fixing their own preamps: if you replace switches or pots on an Ovation electric guitar, don't solder the replacement part in until you have reassembled the preamp on to the pickguard. The various pots, switches and jacks form the mounting hardware for the preamp and if you solder the parts in before reassembly, you stand a near perfect chance of damaging your printed circuit traces.

BruDev really came through for the Glenn Hess PD. I was stumped after I figured out the tone pot was the problem. Interesting failure mode, the resistive material in the 750K pot simply flaked off the phenolic backing. This was why Glenn noticed a gradual degradation in the operation of the tone control. As more of the element flaked off, he would have a shorter and shorter range of control. By the time I got it, there was only Bass and Off. BruDev's replacement pot ressurected this one. It leaves tomorrow to return home.

As for Mwoody's, sorry man, this one's pretty ill. Appears that the pickups are bad (though I would think that the likelihood that two would fail simultaneously is small). But everything else seems to be OK. Volume makes things loud and soft and tone makes them sound different. But no joy when trying to pluck strings. My CLR meter, while good for testing passive components, doesn't seem to be appropriate for testing trandsucers. I don't have anything that appears to be suitable for testing pickups and I'm sending the Glenn-Hess-Preacher-Preamp-Testing-Jig home tomorrow.

I really do appreciate your help Rick! It is the relationships from this board that make it worth while.
The beauty of the PD's pick guard set up is that I can throw in some different pups on a new P/G and not have to carve into the guitar to make it playable. Some day the electronics will show up.

Fifty points to Gryffindor and Rick for trying to ressurect 30 year old electronics that were beaten and abused!

I'll be forwarding the patient to BruDev's preamp ICU. He has an opportunity to go for the Golden Snitch on this one. Perhaps capturing the House Cup.
