I've gotten a fair quote for what should be a good quality product (as far as the printing goes anyway). All the pieces are in place, so I can't come up with a good excuse to not launch this project.

Joined: May 2006 Posts: 4226 Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | I just got a fantastic quote on printing! First, they sent me a sample at the 8.5 X 11 size which I compared to the 09 Calendar. Frankly, the older calendar made it look a tad puny. So I asked for a new, and official, quote at the larger size with all else being equal. My friend had already told me her boss really liked the project and would cost the calendar himself. But I was NOT expecting a discount this big! How does $12 shipped in CONUS sound to all of you? Edited by Patch 2012-04-30 3:55 PM

Once you have a card full of photos, it's time to open your photo editor. Then learn how to use the "Crop" feature. Crop your photos into unusual dimensions. Fiddle around with ideas until you get something that appeals to you. Get VERY used to using "SAVE AS" so that you keep the original photo for other uses if necessary. And I always save in two separate resolutions: High Res in case I ever wind up printing in some way (like this calendar). And low res for wasting bandwidth on forums whether people like it or not. FWIW, it takes a lot longer to type a post like this than it does to actually take the pictures. It sounds like a lot, but once you've done it a couple times, you start to figure out what works for you and it starts moving pretty quickly. And just like playing guitar, it can be loads more fun if you just go out and do it instead of reading about it here.
Send more photos everyone! Edited by Patch 2012-05-02 8:33 AM

Is there a pixel dimension which correctly translates to the 8.5x11 calendar printing? And will this be a landscape or portrait orientation? Do you want the picture to fill the 8.5x11 or will you be framing the pictures as needed?

Do you want the picture to fill the 8.5x11 or will you be framing the pictures as needed? The calendars will now be a larger format, 10.5 X 10.25 inches. (The same as the 09 Calendar.) Send several pictures of the same instrument, and I will frame them myself. That way no one needs to worry about size ratios and such. Be sure to keep originals for yourself. Don't forget to pass along relevant trivia regarding your instrument. I can't make promises as I do not know what all will be submitted, but I'm hoping for a decent mix of standard models, vintage guitars, custom instruments, etc. I like what's been submitted thus far, but we are going to need more.

If you're not in the United States, what the heck, take some pictures anyway! Keep'em coming folks!

The deadline is the end of this month, and though the layout is coming along nicely (most of the time), I don't have quite enough pictures for the calendar yet. Send'em in folks! Remember, higher resolution is best for this kind of job. Give me several photos from various distances and angles. If you have a group shot, send it; even if that's the only photo you have. If you have a shot of you playing your guitar, send it; even if that's the only one you have. In the interests of being purposefully redundant, send me more pictures!

If you don't have time to take lots of nice photos, take a second to get a good picture of your collection and send it to me. The higher the resolution, the better! Thanks everyone!
