My favorite was wild man Freddie Blassie. He called everybody a Pencil Neck. Not sure how well known he was in the rest of the world, but he was huge in Los Angeles.

I only know about him courtesy of an NRBQ tribute song.

I can just see it now; after many long years of waiting and watching, the knight-in-shining-armor finally dismounts in my driveway, clinks his way into the house, picks up the remote and tunes in....."Friday Night Smack Down.....?"
And here I was worried that perhaps he'd play a Taylor...... ;)

+1, Ali.

I remember that my two brothers would watch wrestling on TV. I think Captain Lou was on, along with Chief Jay Strongbow (spelling).

My mother remembers going to the Armory and watching Gorgeous George.

Don't remember seeing Lou, but definitely remember watching "Portland Wrestling" with my grandmother.
Jesse Ventura and Roddy Piper got their starts here. I remember watching Andre the Giant wrestle as well.

Now Andre the Giant is different! He was in my favorite movie of all time - "The Princess Bride". I'm glad he found a career after his wrestling days were over so he didn't end up "unemployed in Greenland". :D

I never watched it, but I had several arguments with people like my father-in-law about whether they were athletes or bad actors.
