60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, the new Millennium? What's your favorite era of Ovation?

Tough for me. I really like the old Tornado, and the old first year 1117, and I really like my new 2080, 1778LX, and Custom EliteLX 12 string, but...

I'd have to say the 80's. I have a 1537, Legend, UKII, Magnum IV, PF-22, and there's a bunch of things I'd still love to get my hands on from that era. The #1 being a "Book" Elite or 87C. Also the decade that the Collectors series started.

Yep, my favorite has to be the 80's.

What's yours, and why?

Early 80's, mid-90's, and some recent years, too.

First Favorite:
The OFC era... I signed up just a few months before the "LX" rumors started and found out I had friends all around the world. The LX, the revival of the textured top, the re-issues, VXT, VIP, Factory Tours, Amelia, was/is a great time to be an Ovation Fan.

Second Favorite:
Early Seventies... This is when I bought the Ballader and Breadwinner. Inovations proven by the test of time.
Just last night I picked up the ol' Ballader to test out how my hand is healing. This is the only Ovation I've played where I can feel the bowl vibrate on my ribs. No Adami or LX model has done that for me yet.
While I was playing last night I thought I should post about this but I didn't think it was worth a new thread.

Least Favorite:
The Era of the Blue Labels... And I'm not sure exactly why. Was this the time of the VT bracing? Maybe someone has an idea what was different about those years. Maybe I just don't like blue labels.

Funny, I thought you would have said from 98 onwards !!!

For me, geesz I dunno ...

66-69 was sort of the primo years for a lover of shiny bowls and storms.

70's nothing stood out for me except for a few good ones around '76 with blue tops.

80's you can ctrl-x except for the 1537 and 87C.

90's were some of the best looking guitars, emphesis on LOOKING.

2004 onwards, starting with the 30CM and then the LX, contour bowls, new textured tops, etc. has been wonderful.

So I guess I like the FIRST 4 years and the LAST 4 years the best.

Dave

For me - the 70's when I got my Preacher and Matrix and of course now - the 00's - the 47RI, the Millenium, the '05 collectors.

The rest weren't too bad either.

The early 70's. Everyone was playing them.

If someone on TV was playing a guitar it was probably an Ovation.

I guess the most truthful answer is from Jan 2002 onwards.

Mid 70's. That's when I saw Glen Campbell and wanted an Ovation 12 string. And then there was the Partridge family, and I wanted a Breadwinner. Now that we have a Preacher in the house, it makes me want a Breadwinner all the more.

But right now is also a great time for Ovations. The LX is a superb instrument. Modern design, materials, and computer aided manufacturing means that the potential exists to make every instrument a work of art and to sound better than ever. With the TLC and customer support which exists at the factory, Ovation is making instruments we couldn't dream of owning even a decade ago.

Not sure if Adamas or Ovation are interchangeable, but I loved the 80's with my 1537 and some of the other fine guitars of that era I have played, but presently, the 2000's are "striking a chord" with me with the introduction of the contour bowl and my introduction to Adamas.

The 2080 and now 2008C represent pinnacle guitars for me even after playing some of the earlier Adamaii.

I love the looks, feel and sound. Although, the VIP sucks as a preamp. Sounds fine, just too quirky.

70s were probably best for the growth of Ovation and was when I discovered them. Couldn't afford anything better than the Matrix then, but I still have it. Played the 77 Folklore last night. What a great guitar.
1537 and 87C were probably the best examples for the 80s. I gave the 83 Collector to my daughter last week. Going to the shallow bowl in the same year the 1537 came out just seems like two different directions. Not sure where Ovation was going in that decade.
90s-I agree with Dave. Going toward looks and the mid bowl were efforts at recapturing a market that was going away from the Ovation roots.
Since I joined the OFC, it's been the best since the 70s, for me, though maybe not the best for Ovation.
