Glenn Holloway, a combat correspondent and famous sniper, based at the Navy Annex in Arlington, Va.: "Ooh-rah comes from the places in our hearts that only Marines understand. It is conceived in sweat, nurtured with drill. It is raw determination and gut-wrenching courage in the face of adversity. It is a concern for fellow Marines embodied by selfless acts of heroism. It cannot be administrated. It is not planned and put into action. It cannot be manufactured. Ooh-rah must be purchased. Ooh-rah is Marine."

I'm an Army Brat, but I never enlisted in any service. I know alot of Vets, mostly Vietnam era. One thing I do know about Jarheads: They take that Semper Fi stuff Very Seriously. Once a Marine, Always a MARINE!! As an Old Hippie, I have alot of friends who served. And not all volunteered. Hate the War, Love the Troops. (Jason... Sea, Air, Land, Anywhere, Anytime!)

The eagle with spread wings represents a proud country, the globe points to worldwide service, and the fouled anchor stands for maritime tradition (the amphibious nature of Marines' duties). On the emblem itself, the device is topped by a ribbon inscribed with the Latin motto "Semper Fidelis" (Always Faithful). On land, air, and sea.

Destroying subs and landing troops, The Axis feels our might. For we're the first invaders, On every fighting field. Afloat, ashore, on men and Spars, You'll find the Coast Guard shield. We're always ready for the call, We place our trust in Thee. Through howling gale and shot and shell, To win our victory. "Semper Paratus" is our guide, Our pledge, our motto, too. We're "Always Ready," do or die! Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you. From Aztec shore to Arctic zone, To Europe and Far East. The Flag is carried by our ships, In times of war and peace. And never have we struck it yet, In spite of foe-men's might, Who cheered our crews and cheered again, For showing how to fight. We're always ready for the call, We place our trust in Thee. Through howling gale and shot and shell, To win our victory. "Semper Paratus" is our guide, Our pledge, our motto, too. We're "Always Ready," do or die! Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you. SURVEYOR and NARCISSUS, The EAGLE and DISPATCH, The HUDSON and the TAMPA The names are hard to match; From Barrow's shores to Paraguay, Great Lakes or ocean's wave, The Coast Guard fought through storms and winds To punish or to save. We're always ready for the call, We place our trust in Thee. Through howling gale and shot and shell, To win our victory. "Semper Paratus" is our guide, Our pledge, our motto, too. We're "Always Ready," do or die! Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you. Aye, we've been "Always Ready" To do, to fight, or die Write glory to the shield we wear In letters to the sky. To sink the foe or save the maimed Our mission and our pride We'll carry on 'til Kingdom Come Ideals for which we've died. We're always ready for the call, We place our trust in Thee. Through howling gale and shot and shell, To win our victory. "Semper Paratus" is our guide, Our pledge, our motto, too. We're "Always Ready," do or die! Aye! Coast Guard, we fight for you. ![]() ![]()

As the former Executive Officer of the 4th Landing Support Battalion (headquarters was in Seattle), I know first hand of their professionalism and courage. I will expect Aloha_Tim to post on their birthday August 4th. Semper Paratus.

Joined: December 2005 Posts: 1234 Location: Tidal Mudflats of Virginia | Thanks Tony, the Marines have always been the first to remember the Coast Guard's service. I opted to go the sea, my brother proudly wore the Globe, Anchor & Eagle, and our father served in the US Air Force & Air National Guard during Vietnam. Our grandfather and great-grandfather both served in the US Navy, seeing action during the Great Wars. God Bless Our Troops & Happy Birthday USMC!

He was originally slated to head back to the sandbox sometime next summer, but they all had to update their power of attorney on Thursday, calibrated their weapons, and were told to be ready to roll. Something is in the wind.
