Maybe this is a dumb question, but what is the difference between a T-257 Tangent and an Elite 1787T or 1887T. They seem to have the same look.

Do you mean beyond the fact that the Tangent is made in Korea and the Elite T is made in the U.S.?

Oh, didn't know it was a USA, Korea thing. Like I said, "maybe a stupid question." I didn't know that a Tangent was like a celeb. I know feel educated. Thanks Moody!

There are no stupid questions. Just smart ass responses. Go find and play a mid depth bowl Elite T. You'll be amazed at the great sound.

Oh I have! I posted on the thread about Elite T's. I was very impressed. Maybe my original skepticisom (sp?) had to do with thinking it was a Tangent? Nice sounding guitar! Especially for the price.

When I played a mid depth bowl with new strings, I was amazed at the sound. Somebody at Ovation explained to me that the coating on the guitars is much much thinner than the older bowl coating and laquer on the top.

Now if I could ever get past the fact that it looks like the stucco on the outside of my house....

You are nicer than I was. As nice as it sounded and felt, it seemed like I was playing a slurpee cup with a rocky black paint job. Hey moody, I it's just you and me in here?

I'm here too. I'm the guy that likes everything about the Elite T- except for the fact that they look like they're covered with spray-on pickup bed liner.

Nils, I like your description the best! As I read it I heard a "ding". I guess that is one of those things where you have to close your eyes and play!

When the Elite T came out I was a strong support for it, an American made guitar with a reasonable price and a good sound. The top finish IMHO, was a good compromise to get that sound. I don't know if the decision to give the top a very thin paint layer was for economics or sound, but I suspect a beautiful finish would have added $500 to the guitar and put it in the Collectors class, thereby putting it out of the price range it occupies.

Bowl paint was used on the Elite-T to keep the cost down. It is a very thin coat as are most of the bowl painted items to interfere as little as possible with the vibration of especially the top.

I personally think the "texture" may add a little to the sound, but I doubt it's really measureable.

Both Elite-T models were designed to fill a void in the market that was voiced pretty loudly here at The Ovation Fan Club. So many folks wanted a guitar that sounded good, and made of quality in the good'ol US of A, but didn't cost an arm and leg.

And as someone stated... If you want a nice wood top on an Elite-T... uh err they call it an Elite and I suspect it is about $500 more.

The other cost-cutter on the Elite-T is they don't bind the top

Boys (when I say boys, it is a liars contest around the campfire)

I've said this before, when you are starting out as a picker, sound should be your goal in a guitar. When you are playing in that dive that we all have had to play in, where the bouncer is more apt to bounce the band than the bitching regular, and applause might be a torrent of beer bottles (longnecks mostly), you don't want to be playing a pricey collectors model, but something with good sound, great construction and American made might do. Elite T, and when you hold it up to deflect the missiles, you can shout, "This f----r is American you assholes, so throw your bloody bottles at the banjo player." This wiil get you the 2 minutes you need to escape. The banjo player is on his own, as it should be. (Paul T. confessed to playing a banjo, can you imagine a banjo with an English accent? Kinda gives you a different slant on life.)

Bailey, I had years of therapy following the banjo debacle & I'm almost fully recoverd, though I still get a facial tick whenever I hear "foggy mountain breakdown"

Sounds like a cue for more banjo jokes........

Thanks

I just now edited it a little to keep Al from worrying about the swear police and putting those black blocks on it that the government always does when releasing secret documents. Example: The black, black, today, black black is black black black the black black black on black black is announcing the end of the black black, due to the end of the black black, black Congress will not convene ever again, children and minorities will be black black. Imagine a black block at each "black".

Bailey (Black you Al the black words are gone and I say blackity black black to any censorship, I hope I didn't state this too emphatically and cause Al to censor this black blackity black statement)
