I have to admit I've always been kind of a "wood snob" when it comes to guitars, but lately I've been looking for the ultimate plugged in sound. I play mostly in church, and was unhappy with the plugged in sound of my Martin 000-16SGT. For financial reasons I'm a one guitar guy, so the Martin had to go. As I was perusing the local shops, a black CS257 caught my eye. I picked it up because of how cool it looked, but I quickly fell in love with the way the neck felt. When I plugged in, I knew I had found my new guitar. The really surprising thing however, was how good the guitar sounded acoustically. Especially since its a shallow bowl laminate top. I can only imagine how good some of the higher-end Ovations sound. Anyway I'm no longer a "wood snob," and I've become increasingly interested in Ovation and its history. I look forward to hanging out and sharing with you all...

There's a wealth of knowledge available here. Have fun in this Ovation Nation! Cheers, Jon Van Gilder Freeport, IL

Now "Wood-Snob"? Why didn't I think of that when I took half a second to make up my screen name? BTW - You mentioned high end O's - there doesn't seem to be an end to where the high end actually ends around here. You will find some of the dreamers, makers, stars, historians, workhorses and especially fans of Ovations here. Make a joyous noise! :D

Someone had forgotten to turn the heat up  , so it was close to 60F in the sanctuary. My guitar came out of my office, several degrees warmer. The difference in temp affected my strings enough that for the first few songs, they would go out of tune to the point that others could hear it... I don't have the luxury of continual retuning on Sunday mornings, so I just park the Custom Legend on a stand in the room an hour or so beforehand. No problems, then. BTW, Steve you are very welcome here.

There are a lot of purists here, and I haven't been able to find any of the models I want to try. I'm also pretty new to the area, so I don't know where everything is. I was hoping that someone from the Fan Club has lived here for awhile, and knows where they keep the secret stash...

You could also go by Cotten Music and ask for Kim Sherman. Tell them I sent you. Good Luck and tell us how it went.

Cotten is a great shop, but only if you're shopping for Collings or some other high-end brand. I was in Corner music a couple of days ago, and they only had one six-string O in the shop. It's kind of frustrating...

Are there any Ovation reps in the field visiting the music stores and selling the brand where there is a market and none on the shelves? I can't see an excuse that there is no market that everybody is buying their Ovation from MF or some such as the catalogs don't carry the best Ovations, and you have shown a market exists. The excuse that they wont stock them is BS, I spent a year selling Pittsburgh Paint and Glass products to lumber yards and Hardware stores that carried many brands, I just had to show up often, be nice, push my product, and show up often, eventually the most unfriendly would come around as we got to know each other and I sold my brand, (I truly believed I was selling a good product, and Ovation IS a good product).
