Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I just restrung my 1768 Elite and while I was at it, I removed one of the 3 shims. It had a really good action before, but now it's like a strat.
Problem is, the bottom E has no sustain when I fret, most noticeable on the 5th fret (A). It rings fine when played open, but sounds dead when I finger any notes up the fretboard.
All the other strings ring out fine. The string isn't touching the next fret. I'm getting no fret buzz and the break angle at the saddle is still steep.
I used D'Addario EJ16 strings, my regular strings of choice.
I'm think it didn't do this before I took the shim out, but I can't be sure.

It also could be just a bad strings.
I personally think you're better off having the action up a bit and getting the best tone. That, after all, is what an acoustic guitar is all about.... |
