Hi,

My name is David and I recently decided to take up guitar...again.

When in my early teens, I was thinking about learning to play guitar. My mother decided to suprise me for my birthday and went to a local music store where she inquired about getting her son an electric guitar. Not knowing a thing, she asked my uncle who played and he recommended an Ovation as he loved his acoustic.

So not having a clue as to what was what, she told the clerk she wanted to buy an Ovation electric and he recommended the Preacher. This was in the early '80's. My mom thought I would like the look of the black one they had in stock and chose a Preacher Deluxe with gold accents. Said it reminded her of my favorite car, the TA from Smoky and the Bandit. LOL

I was blown away when I opened up the case for the first time. She was right, I did love the black/gold combo and couldn't wait to learn how to play it.

Unfortunately, like most teens I was fickle and a couple months later when football started, I became distracted and never continued to take lessons. One thing or another kept me busy and my Ovation patiently sat in a closet.

Fast forward over 30 years and my 10 year old daughter who has shown an interest in music since she was a baby, asks if she can have a guitar for her birthday. She specifically said she would like to have the kind with the holes in them (acoustic) as she likes how they sound. We bought her a nice starter model and she started taking lessons a few months ago.

So this got me to think, how cool would it be to take lessons with her and have something we could do together. I went digging in the storage room and wayyyy in the back behind several boxes, was my old Ovation.

I took it into a local guitar shop to have it inspected and they said with a minor "tune up" it would be perfect. In fact, the technition was like, "WOW, man that guitar is like in phenomenal shape for its age ". It should be I said, it hasn't seen the light of day in 28 plus years.

I just picked it back up from its service and ready to take my first lesson next week. Excited!

Anyway, that's my Ovation story and looking forward to learning how to play it finally while spending time with my daughter.

Have a great day!

David

Beautiful man, beautiful. I bought my first O solid body back around the same time.

I've still yet to have a go at a Preacher Deluxe though. I hear they're pretty nice.
