Hi. I decided to do some checking on my Ovation Ultra and found my way here. I know it is an Ovation Ultra Model 1528 made in Korea. I do not know the age, commonness, or price of the guitar because I purchased it used in Alaska in 1995.

Another thing I will mention is that the finish has cracks. It was like that when I purchased this guitar, and the salesman mentioned that it was common in these guitars. Is it? Does this defect make the guitar’s value drop significantly? I am guessing there is no way to repair this short of total refinishing which would not be feasible. The area with the cracks is circled in the picture linked to below.

I just really want info if any can be provided. I always get a lot of questions when people see it, and I have no answers. Common questions are: What type of wood is that? What color is that? What is it worth?

Thanks

Ultra tops are usually laminated spruce, yours appears to have a birdseye maple outer veneer. I can't find a reference to that particular finish colour.

Forget about the cracks, the don't detract from the value too much & a refinish would cost as much as the guitar is worth
