I went to a outdoor festival last night and got to see Mark Farner Blue Oyster Cult and Paul Rodgers. They all still play and sound fantastic.
I got to meet Mark Farner in a bar after his performance and I asked him how can he still sing like he did in the seventies and he told me that it was marrying a woman 13 years younger than him that keeps him howling. It was a very good night and I have the HEADACHE this AM to prove it.GWB

Damn... And I had wanted to go to Mt. Clemens last night but we ended up elsewhere.
Interesting that while Mr. Farner was playing The Clem, the rest of his band, calling themselves Grand Funk Railroad were playing 30 miles down the road in downtown Deeetroit. I wasn't there but I have a good guess on which show rocked more.

Grand Funk at historic Cobo Hall..

I never liked him. Had a Messinger guitar for a while but liked it as much as I like him. They had a big following and I guess they still do. Didn't he become a rather outspoken God-Squadder? (not that there's anything wrong with that)
Good to see he's still at it and able to pull it off.

It was kind of interesting but on his 3rd song he just got about 10 seconds into it and he stopped playing and the band went dead.
He turned around andsaid I just broke my Fuc$%g guitar,Wheres the duct tape when you need it.
It wasnt 10 seconds later that a roadie came out with the guitar that you see in the picture and it didnt stop the band from playing for more than 2 minutes.I have been to concerts wher some players take 10 minutes to change a string.
Its nice to know they have things happen live also.GWB

CWK2 , I think that he did get into religion for a while .He does have some Christian Albulms on his website.I do know that he had a good time going last night at the bar after his concert.
Whatever it was a good time was had by all.
I never thought that in my lifetime that I would ever sit 100 feet away from Grand Funk Railroad/Blue Oyster Cult and Paul Rodgers in an outdoor cafe with a beer in my hand and my wife by my side while they played their best music for us and it didnt cost me a dime and then to top it off he and his ontourage have the table next to our party reserved for the bands.
Great Night in my lifetime.GWB

when I was in high school I loved GFR. the reason was I was able to figure out there tunes and the solos off the records.
It wasn't until later that I realized there wasn't too much there.
BUT as kids fondly remember kiss now I fondly remember grand funk.
met dan brewer a few years ago, he was endorsing peavey drums. Nice guy.

Can anybody tell what kind of guitar Mark is playing in the black & white picture on this post?
I looked under Messenger guitars and they seem to be fit that type of style and some of the necks look alike but I do not see this style unless it was made just for him?
Al you said you were a big fan in the days ,do you know what it is?GWB

GFR, Brownsville Station (Smokin in tha Boys Room), and Doobie Bros. were my first concert. Least, that's the way I remember it around '72??!

A very long time ago I saw two very new bands at a place called the Ark on Kenmore Sq. Boston. Both bands were new Santana and Grand Funk Railroad awesome night and it only cost me $3.50
I miss those days.
