I replaced my Adamas II's old-fashioned two-knobber-electronics (right side) with the new reengineered electronics (left side). IMHO they have a comparable sound but the newer one is nearly noiseless and noticeable lighter. It reduced the overall weight of the guitar by 120 gr (0,25 lb), that's about 5 %. Not terribly much but these old Kaman-bar-two-knobbers are heavyweights and so any weight reduction is welcome.

I thought the new electronic had a bit more fullness and body to them. Made the old electronics sound a bit thin.

I took the electroncis out of my OFC guitar and put them in #42. Sounds nice. Dave

I had the mothership change out the two knobbers for an OP 24 years ago on #43 - more flexible, and much much quieter - as is needed in pit work

It's not surprising that the newer 2 knobber system is better than the old. Keep in mind that the old 2 knobber electronics are a 30 year old design.....

Do the old two knobbers use the same electronics package as the stacked controls from the same period? They all sound great to me.

My 1581 RI sounds great unplugged, but I must say that the plugged-in sound is a bit thin for the top strings....

PS When I installed a classy Fishman system in my 1117 (Legend) it was sweeeet. Maybe good idea for the Adamas two-knobber!

Buy the reissue 2 knobber electronics from the factory and install them yourself. If I can do it, anybody can. And they sound great. Newer technology by about 30 years......

....a little OT, but, when Beal came to the g8r jam, he brought a number of Adamii (protos and priceless originals) with the electronics removed....much lighter and the sound was amazing....

Is there any gain by removing the electronics..acoustic wise?

Now that's what I would call a worthy upgrade!

the guitar in question is an RI model so it already has the upgraded two-knobber electronics.

Good point Randy. I didn't even think about that. I kept thinking Dob's 1581 was an older one......

Dob, looks like you're S.O.L.!

Thin sounding on top? Try heavier strings. I love the feel of really lightweight strings, but I, too, have noticed some tone loss up high. I'm starting to set up different guitars with different string weights so I have options. Options are good.

Elixir used to make a mixed set, medium lights, that went from a .56 down to .12.....
