Joined: March 2005 Posts: 5567 Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | I packed the Book Elite for the beginning of it's trip to OZ and AJ's warehouse...(lol)... It's going by way of Jack (Kotadawg) and then carried by hand to OZ later in the month... It is difficult to see such a great guitar go...but I know it will have a wonderful home and be well cared for... I know there were folks here who wondered why in the world I would sell such a great guitar: the truth is I found an even greater guitar: the 1978 Adamas 1687-8 #189 and needed to sell something to be able to get it (in spite of the fact that Paulie thinks I must be independently wealthy  , or dipping from the church  )...in truth, I had a benefactor (who shall remain anonymous for the time being) who actually sent me the money to be able to get the Adamas until I sold something to pay him back...I didn't ask, he knew I wanted the Adamas and so he just sent the payment overnight... In looking at what I had to sell, it was apparent that the Book Elite was very nearly the same price as the Adamas from CL...So I sold it…and repaid the trust/gift. So now it's come full circle: thanks to the generosity of a caring friend/member I have the guitar of my dreams and AJ has a fabulous addition to his clan...and my benefactor will always be part of making that happen…and the story will be passed down along with the guitar to my kids… Guitars are personal: for me at least they transcend many other things in life...the guitars are art; instruments of great musical possibilities. They are individual in that each one is different from each other...they are just special. So are friends… Having to sell one guitar to buy another is something I have had to do since I began playing nearly 44 years ago...fortunately, I have been able to acquire a few over the years that have transpired into a small family of great instruments...yet sometimes, I still have to sacrifice one to get another... In a time when everything seems to change and morph into different life directions, I guess it’s nice to know that some things remain the same...even if it means saying goodbye...I gave up one great guitar for another great guitar…but even better: I gained a friend for a lifetime in the process…not a bad deal at all… Enjoy AJ! Thanks Benefactor..... ![]()

Now, everyday is like Christmas playing this fine Adamas I: ![]()

Vic -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No, just one of the early Adamas I's. here is the link to the album if you'd like to see other pic's... #189 Believe me, there's definetly something about the tone of the first series guitars...All Adamas I's sound great, but this one has to be experienced to appreciate the difference...incredible... Dave says the bowls have something to do with it on the old ones...whatever it is, it's working...

However it seems in this situation that there are no losers only all round big time winners. Mike this is a great story and I am very pleased to be one of the "winners" in this case. I wasn't aware of the behind the scenes activity involving the purchase of that magnificent 1687 Adamas. I can only speak for myself but there seems to be some sort of special quality and trust about the people who are this forum. I experienced this first hand last year when I bought my Slothead whilst on holiday in the US. Who would send an extremely valuable guitar across the country (to another OFC member acting as delivery man) without recieving full payment and then allow that person, whom he'd never met, to take it out of the country after a monetary mixup? Thankyou Colin and Paul. I have been very fortunate to meet and enjoy the company and friendship of quite a few OFC members both here and in the US. I always wanted a Book Elite after I saw Miles' at the NW jam and I am so looking forward to recieving it. Mike I hope that one day we might meet up somewhere and strum a few chords (in my case) and share a brew. In the words of a great Beatles song You say Goodbye and I say Hello Thanks Mate AJ

In every other instance the loss of the guitar has been satiated by the aquisition of a new one. Recently it's been more like sell 2-3 to buy 1. But little by little you whittle your way towards what really suits you. And your preferences can change over time, mine certainly have. So yes, tough to say goodbye but also nice to say hello. Good luck AJ with the guitar. I can attest first hand that it's a sweet one.

It was already bulging at the seams last August, and he's had quite an influx since then. Next get-together, it'll be interesting to A-B it with my 1768, which looks like a book elite, sans 'bling'.

At some stage I'm going to reposess the garage of the apartment next door that I own and turn it into a proper music room. I'll be able to create my own "wall of sound" No complaints from the neighbours then. :p AJ
