I feel the need to address this to those of you who a plagued by this debilitating problem. Before you opt for surgery which to me is not an option unless you are so bent with it that it may now be so chronic that there is no other way. Even so you may be best to give this a try. Stop using your digits for a week or two and supplement w/good quality B-Complex vitamins. They increase nerve, heart, brain and lung function. It may even take months for results. The problem with surgery is that it causes scar tissue that restricts the nerve passages even further. Curcumin which is an herb and bromelain found in pineapple and papaya are anti-inflammatory enzymes. Available at your friendly Wal-mart or Kroger grocery stores. Kroger runs Sundown brand supplements 2 for 1 often on these if you don't want to eat the foods that these contain, and no I don't work for any of these companies. Vitamin B-5 is the missing component that causes the nerve to restrict and rub the surrounding tissue inside your wrist(s). Take a complex B because all B-vitamins are synergistic which means they work better together than alone. What has happened is that we have become a beer and alcohol nation and these are diuretics which makes you loose all B-vitamins so down the tube(s) goes your B's.

My clinic had to get me voice-actuated software for my voluminous report-writng duties. AFTER I had to get physical therapy for emergent carpal tunnel problems. Still flairs up, though.
So, the only true cure is to stop completely, long enough for the tissues to rebuild & stabilize.

Seriously, though, this is important information and I thank you for sharing it with us. I have nerve damage in my left elbow from a car wreck years ago and it causes serious issues with my playing. I also fight tendonitis constantly and the combination is very painful. I do NOT need to add Carpal tunnel into the mix! I will certainly take a look at adding more B-vitamins to my intake!

The "active ingredients" in the vast majority of supplements have very poor bioavailablity. You're far better off moderating your diuretic intake and, more importantly, eat fresh and freshly prepared food. Most of the nutritional value of anything that was processed in a factory a thousand miles away and comes in a box or a plastic package (or both) is long gone.

David Van, You may have bone fracture in your elbow and that is different than nerve pain. You would do better to supplement w/"chelated", pronounced Key-lated, vitamin D3 which by the way is much better than the H1N1 vaccine that is now available and I hope no one here is even considering. Don't do it! For more on this go to mercola.com, Dr. Mercola will explain better than I. G8r, you must be on the same page today as I am. You are so correct!

Back when I commuted to work in a car pool, I used to get real nervous when we drove thru a long tunnel under the city, especially during rush hour. It was diagnosed as "car pool tunnel syndrome" , but it hasn't bothered me since I retired.

I thought you guys in that other thread about Wayne something had a different cause for carpal tunnel syndrome.
After hearing medical "experts" say that vitamins are good, then useless, then good, coffee is bad, then good, alcohol is bad, then red wine is good, then moderate alcohol is good, then bad, then etc. I distrust most any medical advice. I just wait until the latest study says my bad habits are now good ones and then I don't listen anymore. I know that life leads to death and you can't have one without the other. Applying the same cause and effect theory used in all of the latest medical studies, therefore, in order to avoid death, we should stop living.

Wow - he can diagnose possible bone fractures over the net. Even Jesus had to lay his hands on.

I'm going to see if I can get ill so's he can cure me for free.

That's why when I buy cigarettes, I always look for the ones that say, "Smoking by pregnant women may result in fetal injury, premature birth, and low birth weight". No chance of me becoming pregnant, and these cigs are so much safer than the ones that say "Cigarette smoking may cause heart disease, lung cancer, etc."

US,
It's not hard, I'm not a Proctologist but I see pretty clearly that you need to pull your head out of your ass.
