| I cut and pasted a question I had under a different posting.
It don't seem like the LX series has been recieved too well.
Is it relatively new?
Did it recently get released?
Was it an overpriced series to begin with??
Is it just plain inferior to the rest of the ovation line?
I am just wondering because I just spent 600.00 on a product which seemed like a good deal but there is very little talk about.
Thanks for all your responses. So far this week I have ordered three guitars, a 1861 lx which I like alot but it had some cosmetic flaws and an eq issues and not as much volume as I would like but over all a really nice guitar. Very nice neck. The second one I ordered is a 2778LX Standard Elite Contour, it still hasn't arrived, but the more I thought about it the more I thought I wanted a black traditional looking guitar, because I really liked the looks of the 1861 lx.
I don't know how I passed it up when looking on line but I passed right by the 2771LX Standard Balladeer Contour. I just picked it up for 594.00. I am hoping it has a deeper fuller sound than the 1861LX Standard Balladeer lx ssb and to me I think I like the looks better than the 2778LX Standard Elite Contour. I am just not crazy about the multi-color leaves and the black background. I forget there technical term but just a plain looking guitar is fine with me. Hopefully there isn't a great difference in sound.
This has really been a strange way for me to purchase an item and I am still not sure I have made the right decision. For a group of ovation players this big you would think there would be more postings on one or all of these guitars, but there isn't. I have read, every thing I could pertaining to these three different models and tired to piece together what I could on these models but there is just not much available.

None of the major chains have any "0" feedback, harmony-central don't and this site doesn't have much either on these models either. All three look like good values when looking at there retail price and then looking at the normal selling price and finally looking at there sale price. But just not having any buyer feedback is sort of a worry to me. Any how thank you for your feedback and hopefully I have made the best decision I could for 600.00-700.00. |

Location: Upper Left USA | Since the LX line came out in 2003 there has been a lot of initial excitement and comparison as well as more detail as they issued the elites, the 12 strings, a Baritone and several Adamas types. We don't say much now because the LX is the standard now.
By LX I mean the bolt on neck, inlaid epaulets, GS or lighter Bowl, now the contour bowl and the Scalloped X bracing.
I think you must have missed what you wanted in the searches you made.
The basic LX features make for an outstanding instrument. As evidenced in the "T" series the sound is awesome. Add more bling and wood tone and they shine as well.
Instead of searching "LX" look into the early release of subsequent models using the LX features.

Location: south east Michigan | Don't forget to mention the rectangular graphite bars installed where the neck meets the body. This helps to eliminate that ol' 12th fret hump syndrome.
After a couple years now we seem to have accepted all the LX features as everyday normal. At the time it was some pretty big changes. |

| I got a great deal on a 2771lx contour balladeer from Al, and it is absolutely GREAT! (Thanks Again Mr. Big!) I love the guitar, it's very light, has the OP Pro, and lots of oomph... now I'm sure the Legend sounds better, but bang for the buck you can't beat these Balladeers or T models.
my friend and member here Slydog has several iterations of the various LX models from 2003 to present, in Elite single epi, double epi, contours, center holes, and mids...
not a dog in the bunch. all are very nice and have sweet voices.
and with the Balladeers, Ts, and Standard Elites production shipping overseas, these that are currently still available new are the LAST of the USA entry level workhorses.. if you don't have one, you should get one.... the Asian ones most probably won't come close to what we've come to expect from the Mothership.
Call Al and get one today, while you still can.

Location: Vernon CT | I have a 1778LX which has very quickly become my favorite guitar. My buddy has a Std Elite and he never brings it over to play because all he wants to do is play my 1778LX!!! It is a great sounding guitar with a wonderful "Feel" to it. |

Location: Las Vegas, NV | I just purchased a used (one year old, ZERO flaws) 1778 LX BCB, which arrived yesterday. I'm blown away by the sound, and it is very easy to play (which I need, as I've only been playing for 4 months or so). I don't think I'll need any other A/E now that I have this one. |

Location: Winter Haven, FL | I recently purchased a 2778LX and just love it. The tone is very sweet, the contoured bowl sits comfortably on my lap, the tone is very sweet, the craftsmanship is rock solid, the tone is very sweet, it looks great, and it plays very comfortably. And did I mention the sweet tone? ;)
Seriously, this is a great guitar. And it is hands down the BEST sounding guitar I have when plugged in.
Something else I've noticed is how well it takes a capo. I mess around with a capo quite a bit, and my LX shines with it. I can move it anywhere on the neck and have great intonation, solid response, and superb playability.
My only gripe is that I prefer wider string spacing. As I mentioned in another thread, there's plenty of room to spread it out a bit so when I get around to it, I'll fit a bone nut for it with a little more room for my preferences. But it's not an emergency, so I'm in no rush.
I think you'll be quite pleased with your guitars when they arrive. This is my 3rd Ovation, and by far the finest of the three. |

Tell him you want to special order a textured top Adamas. It doesn't matter what color. Get 1 3/4 nut width. Get an OpPro Studio (not VIP!). The details are your preference.
You'll never need another guitar! The Adamas are a step (or three) above their wood-topped bretheren. |

| Hey group, thanks for all the information you gave me. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake. I am selling my fender I have owned for the past ten years to make this purchase and wanted to make sure I didn't regret it.
of the three guitars I ordered I still have the
1861LX Standard Balladeer ssb and it has been playing wonderfully. The eq has seemed to come back to life, no more trouble with it. Maybe it wasn't pushed in or something?
2778LX Standard Elite Contour- I returned before it even got to my house, it may have been the best of the bunch- but I like the looks of the black balladeers better.
2771LX Standard Balladeer Contour- I got the last black one in stock and it is on its way now, I guess I will play it and the 1861LX for the next few days and see which one I like best. I want to like this one best but that 1861LX sure is comfortable. I never play standing up and always play sitting. I somehow think the 2771LX will have a fuller sound. But am not to sure if it will be as comfortable.
Thanks alot for all the feedback, this has been the most difficult gear purchase I can recall, but with your comments I think I can't go wrong with either decision.

It's sort of like that.
You have to see it from a manufacturing perspective. CNC machines have opened up guitar-making methods that weren't possible before now. The whole "LX" thing was a way to "announce" the change. The change has swept away the old paradigm because when a new paradigm takes hold, the old paradigm becomes irrelevant.
