Location: Scotland | Personally I just don't see the point of the centre-hole Adamas. The whole point of the Adamas design, apart from using carbon-fibre, was to get rid of the centre-hole which then improved the structual integrity of the soundboard and allowed them to experiment with bracing for tone production, rather than having to use the bracing to support the structual weakness caused by punching a big hole in the middle the top. |

| Doesn't Ovation have rules that prevent sellers from advertising prices below a certain threshold ("MAP")?
Selling below cost would certainly seem to apply to this rule.

Location: Scotland | Soundhole placement has a big influence on what you can do with the top & how it's braced. If you move the soundhole from it's traditional position you no longer have to factor in the weakness it creates and you have more useable soundboard area. There's lots of maunfacturers using off-set, upper-bout or multiple soundholes designs these days. Once again Ovation leads, other follow.
A centre-hole guitar is just as stable structurally as an Elite, The difference is in the sound each design produces, which becomes a matter of taste. Personally I have no preference & own both styles. |

Also, in regard to price, it's my experience that on discontinued items they can be sold for whatever price the merchant wants. There's a brisk trade in this stuff in NYC, especially in electronics. Merchants get traffic and build good will, and the customer feels like he's got a bargain. Nothing wrong with that. Of course you have to go to a reputable place and cavet emptor applies. |

He's an original member of the Strawbs & also was a member of Nancy Griffith's band for a while. He splits his time between the UK & Nashvile theses days & tours with an amazing singer/songwriter from Nashville called Cathryn Craig.

He's a MONSTER player & a really nice guy. I've tried to convert him to the cause on numerous occasions but Gibson gave him a guitar, so I'm fighting a losing battle. I think the POS on the right is an 80's Washburn, or possibly washboard. |

Great band!
(My all-time favorite album was "Ghosts").
They had just played a little place in my (now ex-wife's) old neighborhood of Lake Mohawk. Alas, I had a gig that nite. :( |

I have one of these exact guitars, in Ruby. It is my first (and only, so far) Adamas but followed a number of Ovations including the 1990 Collector's with epaulettes. I didn't like the sound from the epaulettes as much as the sound from my centre hole Ovations (I thought it was less rounded)so when I got an Adamas I looked for this style and am really pleased with it. As other posters say, it's a case of personal taste. |

I was wondering how it's held up. Intonation still perfect? Is it your primary axe? Have you had many neck adjustments? Also, in high-volume situations, any feedback? Do you recommend it? Like to know your thoughts. |

Location: UK | It's not my primary because I play electric more than acoustic, but it's been dropped a few times, played by all comers to the house, survived shipping from the US to the UK and then being left in the car in almost 90 degree sun for a day!
One thing I did find was that fitting Elixir strings made it very much brighter.
Intonation is fine, neck is fine, stays in tune really well, I play it through a Fender Ultimate Chorus at pretty high volume OK. If I stand right up to it I can get feedback. But I really like playing it unamplified, which is where I think it is an improvement on the Adamas/Elite style (IMHO of course!).
Plus, hey, where do you get that quality construction under $1000. I bought mine used for (I think) about $750 inluding shipping to UK. It is true that Adamas's are rare in the UK so that made it more of a desirable item to start with. |
