I own one of these and can't find anything about it?

Black six string, f-holes, two pickups, about 2" thick. Solid Ovation material, composition body.

Searched the web and Ovation site and wonderd if anyone has anything they can tell me about this guitar.

Yah, black guitar in a dark blue plush case, not the best photo. Sorry. :)

Cliff is correct. Eclipse model 1235-5. Basically made towards the end of the Storm series run and painted with black bowl paint. I think they only came as long necks. Dave

some guy in a gas station told me that these guitars were the bodies that did not look all that great so they painted them black. but what the hell does he know? he just breathes fumes all day.

Very VERY under-rated guitar. As much as like the Tornado and Thunderhead, the Eclipse I think sounds the best.

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and they’re all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens ev’ry day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts
It’s not easy facin’ up when your whole world is black

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the settin’ sun
My love will laugh with me before the mornin’ comes

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
I wanna see it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black

Wood,
can't tell how many times, as a teenager, I would lay on the floor of my room and play that tune again and again...

Thanks for all the good information. The guitar is where we jam, and what do you expect from a drummer (me) I copied the serial # not the model number. :)

Seems that after searching all over the web at 3 am this morning I found that they were the end of the line for the Storm series, and indeed painted black, not bowl material.

Produced for a couple of years, and the 1235-5 means (5) it's black. It was the end of Ovations early attempts to get into the "electric" guitar business.

I bought it, probably traded a Applause six string with the aluminium neck, back about 1981. It's been here and there and loaned out to "guys in the band" I finally re-claimed it last year at the annual Christmas jam, where all of us old farts who played together in numerous groups (not all at the same time) get together for a night.

Yes, the all black caught me and I thought it was all plastic until yesterday. It's that nice of a paint job. Looks durable.

About that catchy tune by the Stones. Yes I played it a bazillion times in the early years. Still love it on the radio. (unlike Smoke on the Water, Freebird, and "Staircase" to Heaven, which I never want to hear again) ;)

I was blessed with three guitar players who were willing to play a smattering of Zappa songs to shut me up.

I retired from beating myself bloddy, going deaf, and not being able to raise my right arm until Tuesday, after 40 years in rock/blues bands.

So what did I do? Traded some drums and and Epiphone bass, and some cash for a Blonde Ovation CC57, which is perfect. It also fits in the hardshell form fitting, Ovation case (part of the test at the store) that I bought for the Applause.

How cool is that. Over 20 years and I can buy a guitar that fits the only extra case I had.

Yep, it's an Eclipse

I've got one, it's my second stage guitar, comes out for anything capo-ed, or when I break more than one string on my sg melody maker(!)

It's sounds fantastic clean, with maybe just a bit of crunch through a Marshall JCM.

Haven't been able to get a killer lead tone out of it yet (I play sonics / nuggets / pebbles garage rock covers), but it's one of the best playing guitars I've got.

Welcome. ;)
I've been playing drums only since I was 12 (in 1959), before that piano, violin, and have played guitar even longer. But alas, I'm still a hack on guitar. I can play with gloves on and it sounds about the same. ;)

Played guitar in a band for one job in college (confirmed that I was a total hack), did do some "Folk Music" in a group (shades of Mighty Wind, loved the movie), bass in another for a short time, but couldn't get along with the drummer. (isn't that some natural perpetual prey and preditor situation?) Good thing I can play harmonic because the union says that's a musical instrument. :D

Just remember, I carry more equipment and use both hands, both feet and sing, all at the same time. But even better, when the band takes a break, I stand up... the rest of the night I'm sitting while the guitar players have something strapped over their shoulder and usually have to stand the whole time.

I don't remember many of the people I've played with, by their faces, but I can tell you what their butts look like? :D

Try this, aside from all the "How do you... a drummer jokes." True story.

We played a three nighter in a saloon and packing up on Sunday the owner said "you can't be in here" get out of here it's closing time. I said, I'm with the band... "you are?"

I'm really enjoying dropping in and reading all the Ovation messages. Used to be I'd have to listen to the guitar players in the band talking about the new "this is the last guitar I'll ever need" every two weeks. Now I can re-live it here.

Fact is that a durable roadworthy, rich sounding, acoustic/electric guitar is an invention with and unlimited market. I can make a reasonably good electric guitar out of a discarded door, found sitting on the curb.

I also own a Gibson, Barney Kessel. Don't know why, since the two Ovations are everything I'll ever need.

On the has been list a Framus 12 string, Gretsch Tennessean, Les Paul recording (low impediance), Guild D50NT, EB1 bass, EB2 bass, and some Gretsch that looked like a Les Paul Junior.

Then there's a selection of nylon string rummage sale guitars. (good for campfires. Play until you get bored, and stoke the fire with the guitar) Great fun...
