| Hi everyone,
I'm new to the site. Glad to find you after all these years, but wish it could have been under happier circumstances...
My Ovation buddy was stolen (along with a raft of other stuff) on Friday 6/3/05 in Salt Lake City by burglers who crow barred through a steel door. I've not heard or seen anything of it yet.
I bought it from a friend circa 1978-9 in Pennsylvania, but unfortunately I don't know its model or serial numbers (and the luthier who serviced it in 2000 didn't record this either! argh!). Going from online pictures, it's a Balladeer 1111 or Custom Balladeer 1112, acoustic only, sunburst finish, chrome machines, no cutaways. It has some dings and a few repaired cracks on its face, but I mostly finger pick so the face is pretty unmarked. It's in a medium-brown Ovation logo hardbody case that had some flat picks from Swarthmore Music Store in its storage box, along with some strings.
Suggestions? Leads? Any way to track it or determine a rough value for it?
I miss my guitar buddy!

Keep an eye on the pawn shops... and ebay.
Recently, someone onthe board posted a stolen guitar registration website maybe they will repost it for you..though the model and serial nunmber would be good to have...

Location: Ohio | Sorry to hear of your loss. I think pawn shops and ebay are your best bet. Keep working with the police and any strings you have, pull them now. Most people can relate to loosing something of great value. As to its rough value, I'm sure a "buddy" since 1978 is beyond a rough value.
Be sure to check with your local "Crime Victims Services" organization as they many times help people replace stolen articles.
We are all thinking of you and hoping you will soon be reunited with your guitar or even maybe a new buddy... |

| Man this is tough news for sure. It may not help to find this guitar but for the rest of us it is a wise thing to learn from this man's experience! We all need to make sure the serial numbers we have are recorded somewhere. Take for example you found someone selling Ampersat's guitar on Ebay. What if they were from Salt Lake City? Even if you were sure this was your guitar it would be difficult to pursue charges or recover your instrument.. But if you had the serial numbers and were able to get the authorities to help. you could prove it was yours. At least that would be something?

Location: Orlando, FL | Ouch, good luck getting it back. There should be a special corner of Hell reserved for creeps who steal guitars! Many (many) years ago, I had a break in and had a Bass stolen, it turned up at a local music store! Luckily many thieves are stupid. Good luck. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | There's a pawn shop in SLC that sells quite a few guitars on ebay. Look on ebay for guitars and then do a search for closest to you. That should give you some pawn shops or other local sellers. There may even be a way to warn some of the local ebay sellers through ebay. The police may check the pawn shops as well, but you probably will be better off doing the legwork yourself with the assistance of the police.
Seems like we used to leave our doors unlocked until recently, now we can't even rely on a locked steel door. Sad. |

| Hey guys (esp. Northcountry), I'm a woman (not a man)who grew up on Bessie Smith, Bonnie Raitt, listening to "Woodie's Children", and learning finger picking from John Jackson and watching Elizabeth Cotton (like Ginger Rogers dancing with Fred Astaire, she played guitar upside down and backwards with strings reversed, if you every wondered why her "Freight Train" sounds different).
But yeah, I urge everyone to write serial numbers for all your musical instruments and tech equipment and keep it in a safe place. I've been keeping an eye on ebay and will continue combing the circuit. As to value, Ovation's customer support referred me to this fan club and could provide no further help -- suggestions?
I just finished Tim Brookes book, Guitar -- great and inspirational! Highly recommend.

| Ampersat; I think you could get someone in here to give you a fair and honest value. I figure this is for Insurance??
If you don't..... then come right out and ask for "Current Value" in a new thread. Good luck on the guitar you just might find it!
