I have an Ovation with a 6-digit number on it and that's it. I know by the number it was made in 1979 but how do I find out more about it? Thanks!!

Can you post a picture?
If not describe the guitar. Are the tuners gold, chrome or black/chrome? Is there binding on the neck? Describe the type of fretboard markers. Any electronics?

Just post a pic of it here. I'll bet there are several who can name that guitar in 3... DOH! wrong game.

I can't post a picture. I just looked at the e-bay site and it looks like a Legend that's there only not as fancy - it has a pickup but only a volume knob. It doesn't have a sticker on the inside, only the serial number. It has chrome tuners and diamond-shaped pearl inlays on the fretboard.

I did say 1112 Custom Balladeer, but they don't have electronics per the Ovation archive!

Maybe - I wish I knew. It doesn't have a pre-amp, only a volume knob. ???

Sounds like a 1612 Custom Balladeer. Does it look this this?

Note-no binding on the neck.

I had a 1612 with a truss-rod cover, single volume knob on the top, It had a silver label in the bowl...

It looks almost exactly like the one you linked to, only it has that volume know and a plug-in. What is a TRC?

Truss rod cover. The black triagular piece of plastic on the headstock.

It looks just like the one that Jailhouse linked to. The only difference is mine doesn't have that black decorative plate-thingy on the head of the guitar, and it doesn't have the stripe at the top either. It does have a piece knocked off the top corner of the head (:-) Why it took me so long to figure out I need a smaller guitar is anyone's guess .....

Yeah, it doesn't have a TRC, or a black decorative plate-thingy or anything. But otherwise (& w/out the stripe), it looks just like the
1612 Custom Balladeer that Jailhouse linked to.

Shaunyb:
Your guitar is a 1612 Custom Balladeer. Yours is a newer model than the one I linked to. It has a two piece neck instead of the five piece neck (the "stripe" at the top of the headstock shows the five pieces of wood bonded together); however it has the newer Kaman bar in the neck instead of the original truss rod.
Nice guitar. I had one until about a year ago.

Thanks everyone for the info & education! Jailhouse, why did you get rid of it?

I had two deep bowl Ovations already, a Custom Legend 1619 and a 1537 Elite. No room or need for the 1612.

Also, I listed and sold it via this forum. The lady that bought it got it as a gift for her father for his 50th B-day. Apparently he had a 1612 years before that got damaged. So it went to a good, deserving guitarist.
