what are your thoughts on what will happen to the value of the ovation / adamas u.s.a. made guitars?

will it be like the car companies like a.m.c. , oldsmobile , pontiac , saturn , chrysler , ect..ect... that went away

it did not make their values go up at all when production stopped with the exception of some very rare older models like the a.m.c. javalin , olds judge 442 , pontiac g.t.o. ect.. you get my drift.

what do you think ?

will it make the entire ovation / adamas brand go up in value or just certain rare models , or will stopping production make the entire u.s.a. brand lose value.GWB

Old Ovations will only be valuable to Old Farts.

I thought that the value of USO's would go-up when they moved manufacture to Korea.
It did in a way. Suddenly there weren't as many USO's on eBay.
People who own the Ovations will just keep them.
(I know that I will be keeping mine)
So it may cost more for you to pry them from their hands.

And you may be able to take your old Ovation onto the Antiques Roadshow.

I agree with Al, although it might take some time. Old Teiscos and the like are considered collector's items now and go for much more than they did new, or were ever (even now) worth. Imagine what a GOOD guitar that is no longer made will go for in another twenty to fifty years.

Of course most of us will be dead by then, but our children and grandchildren will make out like bandits.

I think up, but not necessarily straight away. People will be reluctant to sell if they like Ovations. Previously they may hit hard times and sell one thinking "I'll get a new one when things pick up". Not so now.

Percentage return on the old non-electric Balladeers/ Folklores will be higher, I bet. When you could pick up an old DB for $300, you might get $600 in a few years. A 100% return (or 50% depending on how YOU factor it). A $4000 Adamas probably won't go to $8000 anytime soon....

Probably mainly a matter of supply and demand - we know now that supply will substantially go down due to no new ones being produced anymore, and possibly owners holding on to theirs as replacements will be more difficult. More difficult to predict demand - those who know and care about Os may have reduced GAS as there are fewer opportunities dangled in front of their noses, while the younger generation is growing up with Asia product and has little awareness of US products, while being exposed to aggressive marketing from other companies. So chances are good that there will be substantial further devaluation of US Ovations and great deals to be had in a few years (e.g. Adamas < 1K).

Pro and Con

Doubt (duh) if there will be any reissues so the originals will have a good bump. There will still be, unfortunately, hardship sales. However, I do see a decent increase in value coming. And, I agree that some of us will hold onto our guitars or at least ask for a decent price.

Ovation and Adamas, unlike wood boxes are somewhat indestructible, at least the back and sides. I have O's from 1968 (46 years) and they will probably be in great shape in another 46 years. As to parts, may depend on who buys the inventory of parts and is tasked to provide warranty work. Just glad I have some new 2-knob and stacked knob pre-amps.

As an aside, wonder how they will handle the distribution of Takamine.

I have had a few models over the years, starting with my first, a 1975 White Balladeer. My current one is a 1993 Elite shallowbowl. I was hoping that Ovation would still be around. I had plans on having a custom colored Al Dimeola in white, since I long ago sold my white balladeer.

Looks like I will for sure be keeping my newly acquired 87 c. fix my car, I will borrow the money. ovation is staying with me. So sorry to hear this news. I was playing a gig tonight and a girl walking by as she was leaving told me the news, I was shocked! Its a shame for those workers, my heart goes out to them all. Thank you Ovation USA for your beautiful work on bringing these guitars to life for us all to enjoy. You are very much appreciated!! God bless.

A good one to own might be the very last US produced Ovation.

Value will rise like crazy if some young super popular group/individual comes along and recreates the "Josh Homme" effect.
