I'd been Jonesing for one of these for well over a year, and then one came up for a great price. It arrived today and, boy, is it a beauty. Definitely one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever laid eyes on.

I've been fortunate to pick up a couple of old Ovations recently. The first was a 1537 Elite, which came a few days ago and was going for an amazingly low price. In my time, I've owned some very nice wooden boxes, but these are on a different plane altogether!

Nice catch, but as OMA says, we're visual.

I hope they let you carry them on.

Here ya go guys ...

The 2007 came as new. The 1537 has a repaired top crack. It's also one of the best sounding and playing acoustic guitars I think I've ever laid hands on. It's remarkable that these two magnificent guitars together cost the same as, or even perhaps less than, a new 300 series Taylor acoustic-electric. For me, they really are a delight, in looks as well as sound and playability, which is like the proverbial butter. These are not just guitars, they're works of art, with beautiful features - I absolutely love the fretboard inlays, the feel of the walnut fretboard on the 57 and the ebony on the 2007. I can't remember being quite so thrilled at a guitar purchase.

P.S. No disrespect intended to 300 series Taylors - no doubt, they're excellent guitars.

Congrats Timolin. I've been GAS'ing for an '07 C for a while but just haven't pulled the trigger. I'm a fan of the contour bowl. How does she sound compared to your 1537? They're a nice looking couple, for sure.

Thanks! Yes, I like the contour bowl and the round back in general a whole lot. I tend to angle the guitar slightly so that I can partially see the top when I'm playing, and there is no better guitar for doing that than the Ovation. All-wood guitars, with their sharp edges, tend to give me one welt on the thigh and one on the chest.

Both guitars sound great. I think the 1537 is a bit fuller and "reverby", if that's the right word, than the 2007. However, the 2007 has a really nice, rich and complex sound. They both sound fantastic all the way up the neck. This is perhaps something of a peculiarity of mine, because so many people talk about Ovations really shining when plugged in, but it's their acoustic sound that seals it for me. I play at home, and although I have quite a nice acoustic amp, I rarely plug in, so any acoustic I buy has to hit the spot acoustically for me to want to keep it, even though I may like that fact that it has electronics, too. These two really do hit that spot acoustically.

Visually, the 2007 is stunning. I used to own a Martin 000-42 a few years back, and that's a guitar that has great looks, too; however, I think this 2007 is the best-looking guitar I've ever owned.

I have a nice, compact yet complete collection of Ovations but that's one I wouldn't mind owning.

Congrats on both those beauties!!

+1 Back when I first played my 1617, I'd already decided to buy it before we ever got 'round to plugin' it in... that was just icing on the cake!

I'm quite pleased with the sound, projection and sustain of my other acoustic Os too. Finding the 'right' set of strings helps... deep bowls do too! imho ymmv

Timolin - I've owned some very nice wooden boxes, but these are on a different plane altogether!

gee I hope your luggage wasn't on that other plane with them wooden boxes... knowin' MIA... it's all probably flyin' to South America by now!!

Thanks guys - your comments are much appreciated.

And as for MIA, yes, a few years ago I entered the airport with a Washburn parlor intact and exited with the headstock severed from the neck. Not a pretty sight ...

Nice contrasting pair there! One thing I notice when I see the 07C's is the different pattern of the black spalting(?) on the epis. Each is different and that seems to impart seperate feeling to them. I've had mine on a table next to another and both were nice (of course) but both gave a different feeling. Mine was bought from a member here and was a FRC, but I can't find a single thing wrong with it. At the advise of Bobbo, I tried DR black beauties on it and it is even more striking. Nice set!

The '07 is the pinnacle of USA made LX wood topped Ovations in the multi-hole design. When deciding which guitar to sell it was a real tie between the '07 and an Adamas 2080. The '07 is that good of a guitar!

When I first saw the 07 at a gathering (in 06? 07?), I wasn't that impressed as it just looked like another Elite style guitar but with a contour bowl. Good guitar but just different clothes. Since then I've played Bobbo's a bit. It's an outstanding instrument, on par with my 1537 and 87C. Pretty damned impressive.....

Well, you got two of the best ones out there, me thinks! Both of them are GORGEOUS. I sold my natural top 1537, and I still miss it. I have three of them, and the one I let go had the BEST neck of the three! I honestly don't know what I was thinking (maybe that I have too many guitars, ha). The 2007C I got from Woodrow, and it is also a fabulous sounding and playing guitar. By the way, I own a few good ones, including two high end Taylors and three high end Martins, and I STILL love my 1537 the most. Good hunting on your part, and wow! I have both of these, and love them! Congratulations, Tim!

Thanks Willa! The 1537 really is something else soundwise. Without exaggerating, it's one of the best-sounding acoustics I've ever played. A gorgeous, deep growl with plenty of shimmer on the trebles. And the neck is amazing - as straight as an arrow with low action and zero fret buzz. I don't know if this guitar has improved with age, but whichever way you cut it, it seems a real pity that this guitar should not be in production today and in competition with higher end Martins, Taylors and Gibsons. I can't imagine an acoustic guitar aficionado picking up an instrument like this in a store and not wanting to take it home!
