Anyone know why the Adamas II 12 strings (I think they are model 1685's) are so difficult to find?

I run across the 6 string models (1681's I believe) but would love to find a nice deep body 12 string. I'd saved a nice chunk of cash for it too but recently spent it on Trader Jim's FD 1614. Looks like I'll have to start the 12 string fund again.

I wonder if there were that many made...and, then when some of us get one, we keep it. IMHO, the Adamas I and Adamas II 12's are undervalued. Even a special/custom order through the factory delivers a wonderful guitar at a great price. I'm not saying that they aren't expensive but they are great guitars.

An Adamas II for $1,000 to $1,400? As an instrument of this caliber, undervalued.

I got one from Mishka a few months ago....he bought two within a week and I had lost a bid on one on the bay...soooo, I was whining to him about it and he graciously offered one to me. I snapped it up before he finished the offer. It truly is a keeper. Thanks again Mike!!

They do show up every now and again Steller and are great players and sound fantastic.

Good luck in your search, it will be worth the wait.

Jim, I think Stephen has a layaway plan... :D
That Ad I of his is beautiful, and they don't show up very often. Actually, this is the first one I remember seeing up for sale.

Mike, besides a former Marine, knew there was something good about you...

a/e's:
1658 slothead Custom Legends{two}
1659 Custom Legend
6759 Custom Legend
Balladeer 1968 shiny bowl (acoustic)
1685-8 Adamas II
1688-8 Adamas I

electrics:
Hamer Newport Pro
Hurricane
Wurlitzer

And, they all get played. Use the Adamas 1616 on the acoustic and a/e's; D'Addario EXL150's on the electrics. Did go with mediums on the 1968 shiny bowl for awhile...try that on a 40 year old Martin neck (not recommended). Didn't phase the Ovation neck at all.

Tony: my other 12's

Taylor W-65 in Walnut Top, back and sides (1998)
Fender Villager (1968)

I played Pacemaker 12's for years: I switched to Elites in 1988. I really liked the Pacemaker 12's: they're great slotheads and workhorses!

BTW, I just got an 1687-7 after missing your’s last year...hardly ever see them come up...its an '81.

I've been playing for 40 plus years and I never had the slightest interest in 12 strings until I played woz's Adamas I at the tour. After 30 seconds I was just stunned.
IMHO no fancy woods or fancy names come close to the sound of an Adamas 12. Just fantastic. And my ute 12 plays like butter (but maybe not quite as buttery as woz's).
One of the dangers of the tour is that you casually pick up a guitar to try out and suddenly you're spending money.

oh clive.......didja happen to notice the beautiful 1688 that is available. The way the dollar is to the yen (oppss...euro/pound) it would be like giving it away.

By the way.....where is brother Jeffery. Haven't heard from him in some time.

He's back tomorrow. And it's not an Adamas 12 that's currently in my thoughts.

I've been playing for 40 plus years and I never had the slightest interest in 12 strings until I played Woz's (Charlies) Adamas I 1688-8 at the tour. After 30 seconds I was just stunned.
I had the same thing happen to me: I had only played Ovations and some pretty nice Ovation 12's at that...but Woz's 1688 was the benchmark in my 12 string experience that spans nearly 43 years now...and look what I've bought since the tour (last year). Every one of the Adamas...(the tour was a bit more expensive than I thought it would be! lol)
