Of the six guitars I now own, (Geez... I never, ever thought I would someday own SIX guitars)... anyway... of the six, 5 have ebony fretboards. Only the new VXT is rosewood. I can't make out any difference in tone or sustain. If there is one, I bet it would take Spock's tricorder to measure it. For me it's more of a mojo thing than a practical thing but it is an important feature.

The Whatever-it-is on my Adamas looks Nice... The Ebony my other things looks Nice... The Rosewood on the Academy, the Balladeer and the Trekker looks nice... It all works! :p

But with it now being an endangered and a rare wood, i'll take ebony -- until that too is over harvested. After than -- maple. Love maple fretboads. _____ gh1

Truth be told, if you blindfolded me and handed me a guitar, I couldn't tell you what damn wood any part of it is made of. Like the fretboard of my 1980 Kramer DMZ 2000 - if they didn't actually TELL me it's made of the same stuff as bowling balls, I wouldn't know.
