Our guitar player has a Ovation CS247 Celebrity Deluxe Guitar Green Quilt, great looking and sounding guitar, the problem is when the guitar in plugged direct in our PA system we always get a bass rumble kind of feed back..Is there anyway to avoid this?
thanks
Mandoman.

Turn down the colour.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm surprised you've got a problem. Ovations great strength (to me) has always been the lack of feedback problems associated with other acoustic guitars.

Do you mean ALWAYS always, or when you lean the guitar on the speaker and go for a beer.....? Can you be more specific about the situation?

LMAO Funny , he love s the color. He gets the feed back when playing, but it get real bad when he is holding the guitar when not playing[open strings] The guitar sounds great and his leads always sound great and clean but every time we play he get that rumble, We have tried everything to get rid of it. by adjusting both the guitars pickup and the settings on our PA. The only thing that has worked was plugging it into my Peavey amp, but this takes away for the great sound of the guitars pickup.

Has he tried a feedback buster? Talk to Al. They're inexpensive and typically work.

If it doesn't, get a long lead and push him out to the parking lot.

It doesn't have a round sound hole.so I don't think a feed back buster would work..Unless there a type I don't know about.
thanks weaser for your response.

It's definately a colour problem.

Get a new sound guy and/or don't let him stand in front of the PA. Is there some kind of impedence mismatch?

They make a kit with all the little round plugs for the myriad of holes in the guitar. They work great! The non-amplified sound is a bit thin with the holes plugged, but amplified the guitar sounds every bit as good as without the busters in there.

alpep at lost art vintage is the go-to guy for Ovation Airlocks.

Call him or check out his website lostartvintage. dot com or look for his ebay store by the same name.

Use a Grapic Equalizer .. Turn Down Anything Under say .. 600 Hz ..

Turn Down :

600 Hz minus a notch

300 Hz .. another notch

150 Hz .. a notch more ..

70 Hz .. one more notch

.. F`get aboudit .. go on holiday ..

Try th'FeedbackBuster/Airlocks first.

From there, go to a D.I. box w/parametric e.q./NotchFilter.

You gotta' bass player?

Great Idea on the DI that would work as the amp is working and he will be able to keep the sound he is getting.

Yes we have a bass player.

Maybe a dumb question but what do the notch filter do?

Notch filter . When you get done reading and understanding that, please report back. The rest of us would like to know as well.

Then tell the bass player that the bands' outta pizza/beer again.

The cheapest & easiest thing t'do is just kill th'bass player.

In essence, the NotchFilter will allow you to sweep through the frequencies until you find the offending one that's causing the feedback and attenuates that very narrow "notch"(get it?) in the spectrum without affecting the overall sound.

Basically, get the guitar to feedback, & then slowly sweep the filter until it stops. Some of the Ovation preamps (was it the Optima?) came with a NotchFilter(back when preamps used t'have really "useful" Bells&Whistles).

I used t'play in a band that had an ostensibly LOUD bass player, & it wreaked feed-back havoc on my center-hole acoustic. I popped a FeedBackBuster in, & changed the positioning between myself & the bass cabinet, and "ProblemSolved".

. . . then I quit th'Band.

Kill the bass player it is, Damn guy plays way to loud and is deaf because of it, so he needs to play louder.
