Been waiting 2 months for the Grand Opening of the Madison Guitar Center. Major Disappointment...NO US OVATIONS...When I asked, they said they Had ONE but sold it last night at the grand opening. BUMMER! They must have 8 or 10 Celibacies. The guy said they just didn't think they could sell expensive guitars when you could buy one for $300 that sounded just as good. Didn't seem to keep them from bringing in expensive Martunes and Givesomes.

Dude...I just left GC in Boston. Brand new 2005 Collectors being blown out for $750.

If I didn't allready have one I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

They have quite a few LXs here, but when they get a used US Ovation in, they ask a ridiculous price. Maybe they don't want them to compete with their new Korean models.

Perhaps, GC makes more of a profit if they sell the cheapos as opposed to the real thing?

just my guess ...

I'd wager real money (I'm talking cliff, al or Templeman amounts here, people!) that GC makes more money on used O sales than they do on new O sales.

The rule of thumb at our local GC is 100% markup...if they give you $150 for trade, you know it's going on the floor for $300. And that's the low end, conservative figure.

My local GC has a full wall of Ovations....probably on average about 10-15. A lot of Elite T's and some Celebs and a few nice used Legends...a 6 and a 12.

My local GC just blew out the second 2005 Collectors they got (I bought the first) for SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS(!!!!!). You didn't want to see a grown man cry when I saw that price tag.....

The 2005-ES went cheaper than the 1771LXs they have right now (tagged at $879)!!!!

Ours never had any 2005 Collectors and the assistant manager had never heard of a contour bowl. Apparently they don't pay much attention to the literature because they had an Ovation display that told about the LX and contour bowl right on the wall with the Ovations.

The one Guitar Center I've visited was quite small, yet had a variety of Ovations. Mostly imports but a few US models in a separate room. However all the ones I picked up were in abismal shape-- rusted strings, neck curved far beyond the point of playability. I got discouraged and left.

One of the best stores that I go too is Elderly Instruments In Lansing. they have 10 or so Ovations and a really good expert that buys them. In fact I've orderd a new 40th anniversary Glen Campbell 6-string without electronics.KG

Elderly is a good store, but NOT for Ovations....their selection lately has been pitiful, my local GC has been better. But I am sure of their expertise on guitars, they know their stuff. It's just that the third time I heard their help call an Ovation "tupperware", I finally realized what they thought of them....

KG...looks like you like road trips. Are you thinking of going to the tour this year? If you are the type to special order that kind of Ovation, you would be in hog heaven at the factory.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Elderly.
The others are big box stores and will always act like big boxes, and very corporate. Don't expect otherwise and you won't be disappointed.

I have HAD good experiences with Elderly....I've bought several guitars there myself. I LIKE Elderly. But I am convinced that they DISLIKE Ovation. Look at their selection of Martin, Taylor and Gibson, and then go look at the Ovation selection....

It DID used to be a lot better....as recently as two years ago. It seems around the time when the LXs arrived, they cut the stock of Os they carry.

I must admit, my Elderly experiences have not been in buying Ovations. They were able to get $700 for a couple of UK2s for me.
