I have a 1773LX acoustic and when I play plugged I want the acoustic sound to be muted (to let my wife and kid sleep).
Is there a device that allows the sound from ovation guitars to be muted?

I've seen this:

http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=66884

but I'm not sure it will actually reduce the acoustic volume.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Actually, you'll be surprised by how little a difference they make to the acoustic output. They reduce the 80 to 100Hz range by several dB, but in terms of perceived volume there's not a lot in it.

You could try the patented OFC tour "boot" technique. It certainly made the guitar we tried it on a lot quieter.

Tape across the 12th fret works pretty well for me.

I think (and I may be wrong) what he's trying to achieve is to listen to the plugged-in guitar through headphones and minimize the the acoustic output . . .

I've used the FeedbackBuster for this exact purpose, and it works quite well.

I wouldn't rely on it to minimize any moderate-to-agressive strumming, but if you're just picking & noodling around, it'll keep you from having to dodge a well-aimed slipper . . .

Try an electric guitar plugged into an amp with headphones. Works evertime for me.

A grass skirt stuffed in to bowl works...

String tubes work well, too...talk to dave, he has a TON of them!

No perfect fix for an acoustic guitar, but that feedback buster will help some.

When my wife wants to sleep and I am playing, she requests I play, "On a hill far away...." VERY far away!

1. Get a bottle of this:
2. Fill bowl with said stuff.
3. Presto! Silence!

I learned from charo, yes charo, in an interview in the late 1970's, that you put a sock under the strings. either at the fret board or at the bridge. It's an excellent mute. Sure it makes it a little plinky sounding, but you'll be able to practice.

I guess that's where they got the expression put a sock in it?

Cliff is right... I want to listen to the plugged-in guitar through headphones and minimize the the acoustic output. I'll give the feedbackbuster a try, it's only a few bucks.
Thanks everyone for the help!!

Remove the strings. You can't get any quieter than that!
