Location: SoCal | About a week ago, I made the comment that the pickguard I got from Ovation was not of very good quality. Now I've gotta say that it was my knowledge of new pickguards and not Ovation that was of bad quality.
I didn't realize (hey, I've never had a new pickguard before) that the pickguard is sent with a protective plastic cover that peels off.
Friday night I'm playing the guitar and just kinda picking at the pickguard (I know, better to pick at the guitar) and I peeled off the plastic cover.
Now, the pickguard is beautiful. Thank you Kim Keller at Ovation. What you sent me is perfect. |

Hey, Paul--do you have any blurry windows in your house? Is your watch hard to read?
Seriously though, on guitar things such as tuner backs and those electonics access plates on the back of electric guitars, I leave the protective plastic on for as long as possible to prevent scratching... Sort of an obsession of mine.
Once, I had a guy peel a sheet protective plastic off from the back of my nice flying v. He's like "Oh, you still have that on there" and he peels it off. Man, that made me mad. I was like "never touch one of my guitars again." Well, I didn't say that, but you know the feeling. Like when you graciously allow someone to play your nice, shiny guitar, and they scrape the pick accross the top every time they strum. Or they're wearing a nice chain bracelet that keeps banging on the gutiar... |

I leave that plastic cover on everything too like snowlock. Now you have to post another picture with the pristinely gleaming pick gaurd if you haven't scratched it all up by (gasp) actually playing your Viper.

I once removed the plastic coating off of a new brass mailbox a customer had installed on my old mail route, only to discover that it began to tarnish almost right away. "Hey maybe this guy left it on there on purpose..." I thought. I ran into this guy in the following weeks, installing another new brass mailbox. "Another new box, eh?" I ask him. "Yeah, some a**hole peeled the plastic off the other one!" he said. :eek:
On that note, has anybody else ever thought of putting some clear window cling stuff on their Ovation, where the pickguard would be? I'm one to drag picks- I thought that might be one way to deal with/prevent it? I've purchase all of my O's used, but may consider it if/when I ever buy a new one.

Check out this site: Alt. Pickguard You can get the stuff premade or
in sheets to cut yourself. The stuff is crystal clear.

but you must pick them up and yes that size is not a mistake. |
