A cyber friend of mine who I never met but sold a Martin OM 35 to, died of a heart attack at the age of 56. While his family was planning his funeral, someone stole the OM. The serial number is 111119. If anyone runs across it, email me or pm me and I will get in touch with his family. Thanks, Jim.

Sorry for your loss, Jim. I would love 5 minutes in a small room with the lowlife scumbag who stole the guitar. I have a lot of pent-up emotions I could easily let loose as pummeling.

I've heard of this happening. Someone in the family, or a friend of the family, is in the house, after the person's dead. And they take stuff. Your cyber friend's family knows the person who stole it, even if they won't confess now. They'll find out in a couple of months. Sad. Very sad.

Sad news indeed.

There's a special place in Hell for guitar thieves, this guy has a reservation.

Hmmm.... Maybe should try to remain positive here. AN4340 makes a good observation. Traumatic events like this can really cloud judgement. It's not hard to imagine a distraught family member or friend grabbing the guitar in a desperate attempt to keep a piece of him alive with them. There could be some powerful memories in that guitar for someone. Music is like that. Especially when it connects you with a loved one. Doesn't make taking it right, but maybe a little closer to understandable. Here's hoping the guitar turns up with an explanation, maybe an apology, and still in the family.

Thanks all. I never met the man in person, but while I was in the process of selling him the guitar we spoke several times and emailed back and forth. He was so appreciative to finally be able to get a "nice" guitar that I felt I knew him well. I hope Otto's spin on this is true and it shows up soon. I also posted on the UMGF and the AGF, so it's out there. He lived in South Dakota.

Jim, sorry to hear about your friend.

Jim I believe Canterbuystring lives and owns a guitar store in S.Dakota. Maybe you could PM her and she may know others in the business who could watch out for the guitar.

While I too would love to spend 2-3 minutes with the "person in question"... A similar thing happened when my Wife's G'Father died... an original Gib 355 vanished... it turned out one of the Sons grabbed it to have what he felt was his special memory of Dad...

OK... deservedly so... But Keeping it in a SHED!!!!!!!!!! gotta draw that line...

In all seriousness hopefully the situation is similar... one of the Children had very fond memories of Dad playing the Guitar and wanted it as a memory etc...

Beal, I believe it's the Esteban section.

I've talked to Trader, and it turns out this guy lived about as far from Hot Springs as you can get and still be in South Dakota. Do we have any members in Iowa? That's the most likely place for this guitar to turn up.

Wow, I hope it turns up, It's sad when stuff like that happens. Unfortunatly it seems to happen all too often when loved ones are lost and people feel that for whatever reason they are more deserving of certain personal items than others. The family and perp are both in my prayers and I hope everything turns out as well as possible.
