I would like to say I'll be an active member, but it is more likely that I will lurk than post - that's just me! I haven't played guitar in 10 years. When I was younger I played the classical style on a nylon Garcia. When I entered college I traded for a Strat because all of my buds were playing electric and I wanted to jam. I've had the Strat for 10 or so years now and hardly ever play it. Truth be told, I guess I never much liked it. I was thinking about playing again so I went to a local mom-n-pop and looked at some electric/acoustics. I wanted that acoustic sound back (vs the Strat) but wanted to be able to plug it in and possibly run effects through it like a chorus peddle or something like that. Anyway, the local shop had Takamine's, Fenders and Ovations. I always wondered about the bowl design, thinking it would be very comfortable to sit-down playing. The shop owner said "Just sit and play a few and if you keep coming back to one, you'll know you've found a new friend." So I did... and I kept coming back to the Ovations. He didn't have much of a selection, so I went down to the Guitar Center today and played around. Having not played in a while, and being classically trained I didn't have much use for chords in most cases, I really couldn't "play" except for a few chords, but I tried some Takamine's, Ovations and Yamahas. I tried the Elite models with the multi sound holes, but while I thought they sounded more "full", I just couldn't dig the look. I kept coming back to the cutaway Legend/Balladeer models. When I picked up a Legend LX and played for a few minutes, I was sold. I worried about the acoustic sound since a friend has a Celebrity and I was never thrilled with it's acoustic sound, but this Legend LX sound very nice. Again, I thought the Elite had a lower, bassier, more full sound to it, but the Legend seemed more "bright" to me. Wanted to take it home with me, but I already have a financing agreement with The Musician's Friend, so today I purchased a Transparent Burgundy Legend LX from Musician's Friend. I also bought some new strings and to get refreshed on my guitar I purchased the eMedia Guitar Methods 1 CDROM. Also, my mother is interested in playing guitar, so I thought this software would be a good intro for her. In any case, MF was sold out of the natural. I really wanted black, but after seeing the one in the store I decided it was too messy and required too much upkeep all the time. The Burgundy ones looked really nice to me, so that is what I ordered. Should be here by the end of the week. I'll be happy to post a picture of it when it gets here. I'm really excited about getting back into guitars and I figure with the 45 day return policy, I can always ship it back. My local guy didn't have the Legend LX's and didn't seem inclined to really work with me on either ordering one or doing financing. So... I hope my experience with MF will turn out ok. In any case, wanted to say hello to all you Ovation fans and welcome myself into your ranks. I'll be jamming this weekend with a couple of buddies who have other acoustics. On an unrelated note, Fender has a new amp out that has a drum machine built into it. It's only a little 15 watt practice amp, but with the drum machine it was kind of cool to lay down some licks without a bunch of equipment. Might pick that up too just to mess around with when I'm alone. That's all I have to say. Hi! Carl

And here is where you'll find the people who will understand your appreciation for it. Woody - s'alright. Some of us got it. You can come out now. I did play with it at a local Sam Ash, nice package and good for practice though a little pricey at $269 street price. If you already have a guitar amp. you may be better off with something like the Korg Pandora, but if you don't already have an amp. then it may not be a bad idea.

It is sold out at the guitar center and the little mom-n-pop down the street. They are going like hotcakes. It was fairly programmable, you could change pitch, speed, program your own beats. Interesting peice of equipment - though a bit pricey as you mentioned. The one I want is the Crate Telluride acoustic amp. It sounded VERY nice and had some nice effects on it. Right now I have a little Crate amp that I think might actually be a bass amp. But it has 2 inputs and that makes it great for me and a pal to play. I need something better tho to really appreciate my new guitar.
