For a long time, I’d been searching around for a “RollyThingie” that I could stow my gig gear on (thereby freeing-up valuable space in our garage storage racks), be able to just roll it out of the garage, up to my car, and eliminate a few trips back and forth with heavy gear hoisted up on my shoulder. I’d researched the restaurant-style rolling wire racks, but the racks (and the casters) didn’t seem like they could stand up to the abuse. The industrial-grade rolling warehouse racks were good, but a bit too pricey of an investment for mere “convenience”.
I had pretty much resigned myself to fabricating something out of HomeDepot perforated angle-iron with plywood shelves on a chassis of two moving dollies . . . .
A couple months ago, I was walking thru our warehouse to the loading dock when this thing caught my eye. It was a big, OLD brass hotel luggage carrier. It was sitting in a corner laden with dirty, greasy cardboard boxes. I asked the warehouse manager about it, and he said “THAT old thing?? . . that thing’s been a f@ckin’ albatross around my neck for months!!! . . . I keep sending it back to the (NewYork) Hilton, and it keeps coming BACK on the truck loaded with garbage! . . I can’t get rid of it! . . y’WANT it?? . . .”
A quick ShopVac’ing and a wipe-down with Fantastic, and it was in my car!!
A half sheet of plywood for shelves, four pressure-treated 2x2 balusters for supports, and some hardware . . .
This thing is built like a TANK!! It’s got a HEAVY metal base, the wheels roll/swivel/brake smoothly, and the uprights/cross-member are made of heavy brass pipe.
I can’t find a date of manufacture on it, but it looks like it EASILY coulda’ been around t’lug the Beatles bags around the Hilton in the Ed Sullivan days.
It looks like it seen THAT many years of abuse (tarnish, spot-welded repairs), but it still rolls better than some rental cars I’ve been in.
I’ve yet to make one minor modification, and that’s to bring the middle shelf up a couple of inches so that I can stand the two speakers UP side-by side on the bottom.
An extra power cord and a couple of short speaker cables, and I’ve got a portable rig that I can roll in/out of my Music Room when need be, or outside to jam “al fresco” or in the garage.
Pop the lid off the mixer case, plug in, and "go" . . . |

Due to the fact that you seem to have a vast knowledge of the english language and also the fact that you brought the word "F@ckwit" into the OFC vocabulary. I am surprised that the only name that you could come up with was rolly thingie.
I was expecting you to come up with something like "Fart Cart" or "Smart Fart Cart for an Old Fart." :p ;) :D :cool: |

We opted for a big workbench & additional storage in lieu of indoor parking.
If a major snowstorm is impending, I take our two bikes off the wall, set 'em on the workbench, and can back Jeanette's car in.
My car's "okay" in the snow, but her Subaru can drive thru ANYTHING . . . |
