Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | I can't keep the story straight about which bracing patterns Ovation used in the past that were duds. So when I come across an old Josh White model like this, I'm not sure if it will sound great or not. So my question is: Are these guitars winners?

Location: South of most, North of few | I really don't know why they keep listing the standard 1114 as the "Josh White" (series). Thats like listing a standard balladeer as a "Glen Campbell"(series). That aside, the 1114 is a great sounding guitar. I had two of them, and now the 1614 which is the same guitar with plug in capability. Yes, it is a winner. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The original Josh White model had X bracing. And a very few of the last ones carried a model number of K-1114. But the Folklore model 1114 (no K) that was introduced later (1972?) is a whole different bracing pattern. The brochure about the Folklore mentions "Josh White" as an influence in the wide neck 12 fret Ovation design, so some people call the Folklore a Josh White model, but that's not true. The original JW's and the 2006 Reissue JW are outstanding sounding guitars in my opinion. Dave |

Location: SoCal | According to the catalogs I've got, the Folklore (1114) had "X" bracing. I checked the 1972 catalog when it was re-introduced and the 1980 catalog. It was gone by 1983.
I don't think the Folklore sounded as good as the original Josh White, but having said that, I've played some that were very very good guitars (Trboy's comes to mind --- beautiful instrument). |

Jim I wish they had a better shot of the top. If there are no cracks or dings, 4-500 would be fair. For 500, it would have to be pristine. You won't find a nicer sounding 12 fretter in that range than the 1114. |

Dr Crimsonlake will be performing an OP-PRO/xlr/thinline implant on this one as well.

My 1614 is at the factory now for a refret and should be good as new when it gets back. BTW, get Al to bring the Koa over for a look see.... |

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | I feel like a lucky man today. I am the anxious winner of the above mentioned Folklore 1114 mentioned above.
I've received a lot of great advice from this board in the past and I hope this one pans out as well. Generally, I don't care as much for the tobacco sunburst finish but I have fallen in love with the sunburst 1537 I bought from Dave Witko. This guitar appears to be in excellent condition too and I've been looking for a guitar I can learn to fingerpick. I also miss the 12 frett sound. So this guitar looks like a good match for me.

good thing the wife will be out for appointments...
should be able to slide em in under the radar..
yeah right... she spots one packing peanut or extra cardboard laying around she knows something's changed... sometimes she figures out which one's are new... won't be hard with the black battle-axe breadwinner... she saw me looking at the pics the salesman sent me and said...
"that one looks nice"... but didn't know it was on the way here.
but she probably won't even notice the 1114... it blends with the others.. plus Al will be coming over with his new Koa baby, and another O or two.
congrats on your tobacco 1114 Jim! looks good.

These guitars seem to be rare. I've been looking for some time now. Because they haven't been made in such a long time, I've had a tough time finding one in good condition. These people tell me the fretts are in excellent condition, the sound board has no cracks in the wood or finish and the neck is arrow straight.
The seller is a pawn shop so I'm a little concerned that they really know anything about guitars. But their reputation is good so I'm hopeful...and excited.
I think it's fun to get so excited about someting, even as an adult. I'm 47 years old and I could hardly sleep the night I won this guitar.
My top bid was $450 and I won it for $433 so it was getting awfully close.

Location: Boise, Idaho | The 1614 is one of my favorites. Even has the purple lined case that someone likes so much. I got it cheap off ebay because somebody didn't know it was strung for steel strings and couldn't keep the nylon strings attached to the bridge. |
