| Hey Guys, Ok... so if someone asks you what your favorite guitar strap is and you answer immediately describing the style you have used for at least 20 years.... I need your assistance. If you grab whatever strap is available... you might as well stop reading now. :) So my favorite "production" strap is this one. Carvin Strap For MANY years now I have wanted to get a leather version of this strap with the same features I look for... but have been unable to find one.. I finally had a strap made a few years ago, the Stingray one below. It really is the perfect strap, but as a custom strap... well lets just say it's not uncommon for the strap to be worth a lot more than the guitar its attached to. I'm hoping one of you guitar strap nuts out there may have seen a strap that already fits what I'm looking for.. It will still likely be expensive, but if someone already has the shape.. then I'm just buying a strap, not having one custom designed. Lets start with the part that hooks to the guitar. Straps A and B below are what I'm looking for. Note that unlike C, D, or E, A and B use a buckle that attaches the last bit of strap with the lock to the rest rather than having the lock or hole in the strap pad itself. I like this because it acts like a hinge as the guitar moves around. Note also that unlike C, D, or E, A and B have a taper starting at the main section of the strap. The strap doesn't achieve its full width of 3.5" until roughly 9" to 11" from where it's attached to the guitar. And yes.. the preferred width is 3.5". The main part of the strap is 27" long and that 3.5" is maintained for about 15" until it starts to taper down again to the other end of the strap.  Ok, this brings us to the other end of the strap. Note again on A and B the use of the buckles and the sliding adjustment buckle unlike the methods of C D and E.  The strap is usually set to 50" from button to button, but both A and B are adjustable from about 47" to 54" and if I'm playing bass, the 54" is necessary. Below is my favorite strap. If you are wondering why I would need another, it's that some of my guitars require the strap locks to be mounted facing the back of the strap (most common) and some require them being mounted to the front of the strap. So I would like to have at least two. I also don't think I would want to gig with the Stingray strap.  For those who don't really care what strap they grab... thanks for reading so far anyway, and yes... I admit it... I wish I was more like you. If anyone has seen a strap similar to the "style" and "shape" of what I described above, please let me know. Thanks P.S. Rule #1 is they must accomodate Straplocs Rule #2 is that I don't want any buckles or hardware to bang, clatter or scratch. My best source has been Dave Capps on Ebay for custom cut, hand made single layer leather straps. If you have bought or traded from me then most likely you have ended up with one of these. For the Solidbody units I prefer a simple 1" wide strap with three each 3/8" holes for the Straploc. Use a washer in lieu of the stock washer that comes with due to limited space.  I'm about to request another order but they generally go about $20.00 each including S&H. The next order will be Length 54" Width of 2" Chestnut tone with Scrolling/Tooling 12" Taper to Bridge end with dual tassles and Straploc. Neck end to have 12" taper down to 1" with 3 each Straploc holes. | ||
