I'm planning on being in CT in the middle of July and am wondering if it is possible to get a tour at the factory if I route myself up that way.

Is this possible or is it done on a group basis a la a Al's fandango?

Kinda what I thought, but it didn't hurt to ask.

Thanks Al.

You can always pop your head in the door of the CS department and say hi. I'm going to be back there on July 1 and plan on doing that. Might even drop something off to have a little magic worked.

Bobbo,

If I did stop in ,I was planning on dropping off my 1121 for a top refinish job to take care of a crack. I'd have them do a complete once over as well while they were at it.

Without the possibility of a tour (even a short one) I'm not sure it is worth the detour.

If I ever get up in that neighborhood, I've got to at least take John and Kim out to lunch! Hopefully they'll have at least a half day vacation available... :D

It would be worth it just to see the customer service department and see John and Kim. Do it.

Back maybe 10 years ago, Maryanne and I stopped by on our way back from our Maine vacation. I had a friend's 30 yr old Baladeer with me to see if they'd do some work on it. We didn't call ahead to find out any details. We stayed in a terrible motel in New Hartford the night before, then simply showed up early in the morning.

Having only a street address, and never having been there before, it was VERY exciting to drive up the road and see the building for the first time. Same one I'd seen in the catalogs (remember those?)

We arrived in the parking lot in time to find Kim Keller just walking to the door to go to work...his long hair still wet. He gave us a warm welcome, and he and John considered my friend's guitar.

I asked if there was a tour available. He said "Well...we don't really do tours...but", and he proceeded to take us on a half-hour tour of the place. He was very excited about the new CNC neck carving machine..the only pc of CNC equipment at the time. "One million dollars, but look how quickly we make necks now!" Our tour took in most of the work areas that we've seen in the recent tours.

So just GO. No matter what happens, you'll have a very memorable visit!

I had a customer that wanted to pick up his guitar about a month or so ago and I was told they would not be able to do that. so I strongly suggest that you wait until the "all clear" signal.

Wonder if the 'no tours right now' applies to the Hamer shop? They seem to do their own thing and Jol encourages customer contact. That alone would be worth a visit for me. In any event, prearrangement is highly encouraged.
