You're correct, it looks like the Josh White has one bid for $100 that either met the reserve or there was none to begin with… All the rest say; "reserve not met" so far…
I just wondered if it was an OFC member. Someone's nice collection seems to be on the block, unless the reserves are all ridiculously high and they are just testing the waters with no intention of really selling all of them…
(One more reason I avoid EBay…) |

Naked corporate greed - that's a good one. I must have missed the part where they force you to shop there. For christs sake if you don't like their products or services then shop somewhere else.
Not picking on you Arthur, you just happened to be in the line of fire. I'm biased because I've made some good money off ebay stock but none the less it always makes me chuckle to hear people bash ebay and then brag about their latest purchase that they got on (you guessed it) ebay. Sorta like the people that tell you you're going to hell for masterbating, yet behind closed doors they're jerking off til their eyes fall out.
Whatever ... Evil bay it is. And thank god for them. |

Location: Texas | I had to go back and look, and I did originally use the term "EvilBay" in my post. It has become so common around here that I guess it just slipped right off my fingers, and you MUST have seen it many, many times before…
But, I'll play along and apologize if that offended you Gallerinski. I have no interest in offending anyone.
That said, I sure hope you were just kidding around and are just baiting us to stir things up for the fun of it. To me, your last response seems to be much more inappropriate and offensive than my original use of a common slang term which I only used to direct anyone who was interested towards a listing of some Ovation and Adamas guitars that were for sale.
Anyone want to talk about guitars? |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | New policies that eBay has come-up with lately have annoyed some long-time sellers.
When eBay should have seen an increase in seller/buyer volume due to the economy, they has been an actual Decrease in true volume of transactions.
To be able to squeeze more profit out of a diminishing market, eBay has increased it's fees on small sellers. They are trying to drive away the "Mom & Pop Sellers" (their words, not mine).
And every time they increase their fees they try to tell you it is a discount.
And when they increase their fees, more sellers leave. And the cycle continues. eBay does not seem to understand the it is the Sellers, not the Buyer, who pay the light bill.
They do things like 'First Five Listings FREE'...
But you pay a higher Final Value Fee on those listings, so they actually cost more.
eBay is trying to compete with Amazon.com, while failing to understand that that is a totally different market.
People come to eBay looking for good used items. Amazon is for new items.
eBay is trying to attract 'stores' selling "New" items. (Mostly factory 2nds and overstocks)
If I want to buy a NEW item, I will just go to a Real Store.
You can get a New Ovation from a Real store for Less than eBay, and it will have a warranty.
Yeah... They do give their stockholders some money. BUT!
Their stock is about $25, which is better than the $10 in December... but it was about $45 in 2006.
If they weren't trying milk the sellers for every dime, they could be back to their Glory Days in 2005.
And I didn't even call it evilBay through that whole diatribe...
I used to say eBarf, also feeBay, and fleaBay...
evilBay just sounds better.  |

You can call ebay anything you like and to some extent I am just stirring the pot because I know I can easily bait Arthur when it comes to ebay. Just good fun. He has his reasons to hate them (many people do). I personally love them and have made a good amount of money off their stock. Bought 4000 shares at $7.80 and sold it at $41.50. You do the math. There are very few businesses I am passionate about, but ebay is one of them. Ask yourself if the world would be a better place without eBay. I think not. |

I love shopping there as it gives access to a whole lot of sellers AND buyers, but I HATE what it does to my finances when I don't have self control. My wife hates it because I spend so much time there on line. Of course she hates the OFC for exactly the same reason. |

Location: Upper Left USA | First, Vince - go talk to your Wife, tell her you love her and that she is the most important person in the world to her. Then tell her that you need "Garage time", aka Man-cave time, to get refreshed and ready to face the world. Let her know you need her help in striking the balance and then the two of you should work out some parameters.
Second, Ebay is a business with lots of opportunity and disappointment. I wish they'd partner with FedEx and I'll continue to use the format along with Craigslist.

I just can't bring myself to mess with the EBay/Paypal game. Too much hassle, too many variables, too much disappointment and/or misrepresentation. I'd prefer to deal with OFC members, local Craig's List sellers, a few select online retailers and of course, Lost Art Vintage. |
