Somebody commented that they saw an Adamas nylon string guitar being built at the factory last week. 'zat true? I didn't see it. Any details ???

I played the GC adamas nylon and it was "maybe marginally ok" and I also experimented stringing my U681 with nylons and likewise it was "boarderline acceptable" at best.

Curious what the one in the factory was all about.

Dave,

What strings did you use?

I think maybe extra hard tension might give more energy to the top.

DA Proarte EJ46. It wasn't aweful, just not as responsive as my old shiny bowl classical. The whole setup was a little goofy becasue I had to tie off the strings around a 4" piece of 3mm diameter metal rod to secure them like normal ball ends. I put plastic sleeves on the tuner posts which actually worked pretty well (I'm going to market them). Dave

At NAMM Dave Vincent told me about a roundhole nylon string Adamas custom made for a young girl who was doing the Preston Reed/Kaki King percussive thing. A little later I was talking to Thom Bresh on the Aphex booth and right across the aisle there was the girl he was talking about, doing her thing. Bearing in mind this was a NAMM demo, which is probably the worst place to evaluate any musical instrument, it sounded pretty damn good (plugged in of course)

I've played that GC nylon Adamas too, and while it's a very cool guitar it's nothing to get excited about, soundwise.

Dave, I would agree that all the nylon Adamii I've ever seen were less than stellar.

I considered custom ordering a nylon string Adamas last fall. When I called the factory, the person whom I spoke with told me they planned on manufacturing a production model the second qtr of this year. I had begun to think I had just been fed a line of BS. If this is true, I will owe the factory a big apology and I hope it comes in a color I like.

I don't know ... I've never hear of such a thing. It's already the 2nd quarter of the year and I would have expected at least we would hear about it by now.

I think what they might have been telling you is that they are building a "nylon strung adamas", right? Well, that would probably be the one-off adamas ukulele that Willy is building for himself.

Maybe I'm wrong and out of left field we'll see a true nylon strung adamas guitar. But I really fail to see the marketing logic behind it.
