I know this is a take off of the least favorte chord thread but I thought it may be fun.

whenever I write a tune I almost always work a m7 or maj7 in the mix. something about the sounds of those chords I really like.

anyone else?

...not a single chord, but rather a chord-shape! I dig the sound/versatility of the (X)7#5b9 chord shape:

example: G7#5b9
E|---o- b9
B|---o- #5
G|---o- 3
D|--o-- 7
A|----- x
E|--o-- R

...depending upon BASS note used, it can "be" six different chords(!):

_C-bass = C9
Bb-bass = Gm6
_A-bass = Gm6/9
_G-bass = Em7-5 and Gm6
Gb-bass = F#7-5-9 and GmMaj13
_F-bass = FMaj13

I like the open E chord shape all up and down the neck - it sounds good almost anywhere.

I've been substituting A2 for A more lately. Not just the 0-0-2-2-0-0 version, but the x-0-7-6-0-0 as well.

This Christmas I've been playing "Angels We Have Heard On High", mostly with A2 and E (with one E7), but with capo on 3rd, so it's really C2-G etc. It has a cool, modern sound to it.

Yes Captain! Key of E with 1st and 2nd position three finger chord forms. A must for the 12 string.

Y'know, Woody, I never really felt like I wanted a 12 string, but I bet it would sound killer on a 12.

Chord Miner Professional

I had to share this program. Costs about $15 as a downloadable file and has over 7000 chords. It is a great tool for whenever you see a chord that you don't know or you can click on the notes in question and it will give you the chord name.

Very well done professional product for a dirt cheap price.

Somebody else on this board mentioned this site before. It does exactly like your Chord Miner program.

Check out the Chord namer, and Chord Search.

THIS SITE has some videos that show alternate chords and other lessons. Last night I played an offeratory at church that I strung together entirely from things I learned from the "tricks in A" video.
