By the way, just out of curiousity, what is the difference between the poly-web, and the nano-web Elixers? I believe the nano-web is a thinner coating, but is there a difference in sound or playability?

Location: SoCal | It was explained to me that the nano web is a thiner coating and the strings feel more like uncovered strings. Makes not a bit of difference to me. I tend to use the poly coated strings for the same reason I used to play Top Flites and drink Coors Lite -- easy to remember ! |

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | I broke out my wallet and bought some Elixir Strings (they sponsor the Kerrville Folk Festival, so I figured what a good company) and proceeded to break 3 strings in a matter of 15 minutes during rehearsal. :mad:
Now, I do break strings more that anybody I know (see other posts!). I don't know what the deal was, my guitar (have since tried to sand down the bridge piece), me, the strings or some mystical combination of forces. Anyway, they were kind enough to send me a free set - which I put on this cheap Court guitar that hardly ever gets played.
Anyway, I went back to cheaper strings!!
I'll try them again when I get a new "O" and see what happens... |

I don't care for the tone of them (they just don't have the "ring" to 'em), and I just don't like the way they "feel" (I've made the analogy before that it "feels like playing guitar while wearing a condom"). Like I said, it's probably "just me" as these things have been selling well and people seem to like 'em. I just like the sound and feel of nice, bright PhosBronze stringies!
Like they say: "Different erections for different sections" . . . or something like that.
Has anybody seen the ads for the Dean Markley version (Alchemy)? It's the one with the ladle pouring six perfect streams of molten coating onto the strings of a pre-strung guitar. It's nice to see an Ovation in a magazine ad (even if it IS for someone ELSE'S product!). |

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | Elixers have really saved my guitar playing. Before them I was so frustrated in that I would lose tone quiclky. All I seemed to do was wipe my strings all the time. If I forgot my rag to wipe my strings, I would panick! Now I can play for months, and my Adamas has never sounded better. I do prefer the nanoweb Elixers. They feel more like standard stings due to their ligher coating. They last long and sound great....Paul Hebert |

I'm with you on this.. I love Elixers on my electrics, but for the acoustics I've been playing Martin strings since I was 12. When they introduced their Phosphor Bronze strings I picked up a set and never looked back. I like the bright/shimmery tones that I get from a new set of Martin Phosphor Bronze strings.

Location: Madison, Wisconsin | I prefer the Martin strings as well. They don't last as long as the D'Addario so I only put them on when I feel like treating myself. The best I can get is about 2 weeks B4 tuning starts to get tough. Back in the 70's, I used Ernie Ball Earthwood Lights but they seem too bright anymore. When I win the big one, I might try some Elixirs but I think I need another "O" first. |

I love discussions of strings, but IMHO the gauge etc has more relevance than how they are treated, I have never heard a member of a band discuss string treatment because most band members play new strings every time unless they are broke, and if they are, us budddies will give them whatever strings they need, most of us figure a job will cover the cost of strings and never even think of not replacing our strings if needed. |

Location: puerto vallarta, mexico | i'm not a big fan of the elixers either, though i have given them a few sets of testing. they got fuzzy frayed pretty quickly and the exposed metal here corrodes quickly. maybe i am bending more or something, but i break strings allot. they are a little to slick for me too. now if someone sent me a few boxes i'd sure as hell use them. i just dont see the value for the price difference over bulk martins from string this for $2. |
