Location: Deep south | Hello everyone
I just found this message board and was hoping someone might be able to help me out.
I bought a guitar this summer from a yard sale for $35.00.
I showed it to a friend of mine and he said that it is a clasical 12 string ovation. Just to make sure I did a search on the web and he is right.
So here is the problem. I have looked every where for strings. I can't find any place local or on the web that sells classical strings for a twelve string guitar.
My friend said if I use steal string it could bow the neck.
Can anyone tell me of a place that sells strings for this type of Guitar?

What you have is probably not a nylon string guitar. If you have any pictures of it you could post, or if the label is still inside it, you could give us the model number.
I'm guessing it was deemed a nylon string because it has a slotted headstock. It might be a Pacemaker model, which is supposed to have steel strings. |

It looks as if you are right about it being a Pacemaker steel 12 string. I looked that up and it looks just like the one in the picture.
It did come with a case. The guitar is not in perfect condition two cracks in the finish on the front. Almost like the finish has cracked with age.
OK now that I know what type of guitar I have any ideas on what strings to use for the best sound?

Location: Boise, Idaho | Tuning a 12 was a nightmare until I got an electronic tuner. I use the Korg CA30. I know that $15 for a tuner is almost half what you paid for your guitar, but it is worth it. I downloaded something off the net years ago on how to tune a 12 string. Tuning the 6 strings like a regular guitar first may be the easiest and then tuning the others. Be careful you don't tune too high and you'll figure it out. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I've found on 12's that this makes a big difference: Start in the middle and work outwards. Tune the G's, then D's, B's, A's, Hi E's and finally Low E's You'll probably have to go back and tweek the G's and D's but the rest should be pretty well set. Dave |

Location: Utah | My favorite strings on my 12 are the Martin SP Phosphor Bronze extra lights. I find the 80/20 to be too brassy. It's not an O, but FWIW that's my preference on strings. |
