Location: Some where Over the rainbow | I was wondering if there r any tuners out there that are really great on Ovations, Like Grovers and such. Any help will be great, just wanted to know others experiences with other tuners, good/bad whatever. JOE> |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Schallers are numero uno, it's what the high end ovations and adamas come loaded with. I guess I would stick with those. If you don't care about using the "correct" tuner, then I'd recommend the Planet Waves locking tuners. I've had good success with those on my electrics.
I'm curious about two things, Sloppy, why do you ask about changing tuners? Is there a problem? Some of these can be fixed by properly stringing the instrument (ie using the right knots)
Also, where is "over the rainbow"? I ask only for informational purposes. |

Just curious, want to upgrade if possible, and go with th OP-40 as well. Thoughts? What do you think of that. Would it be worth doing, I just want to do some things to make it "mine" you know? While I was doing it maybe get better (if there is such a thing) to repalce with. JOE> |

If you want to make it yours, a cool thing to do is to put a stencil with your band name on the case and make up a logo. Actually useful when you want to grab your gear fast out of pile Customized case suitable for a gig. |

| I have a question about tuner wear. My '92 Legend has gold schallers, but I'm starting to think they've worn enough to need replacing. Anyone else experience this?..Seems they're not as 'tight' as they might have been when they were new.. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I don't think you'd notice any real difference if you upgraded to an OP 40 or changed the tuners. If you play lots plugged in, you might be better off upgrading the amp.
If you just want a visual difference, you might replace the buttons on the tuners. Assuming you have Schallers, you probably couldn't do better.
Since you have a cedar top, why not save the money and use it for something really different, like another guitar. You could go to a spruce top and a different bowl. The extremes might be a super shallow bowl or a contour bowl. There are an almost infinite variety of exotic wood tops, too. If you really want to improve the sound of your guitar and were really practical, take some lessons or practice a whole bunch. I haven't followed that advice myself. |

Location: Houston, Texas | You have the GC771c right? I'm pretty sure they came with the standard Ping tuners. I know that it would be nice to have a set of highly respected Schallers, but I've found the Pings to be excellent tuners and have never had a problem with them.
One of the best things about Ovation guitars are their ability to stay in tune. If you are having difficulties with that it is more likely due to the strings binding in the nut, or if you play it for long periods of time, a build up of oil, dead skin and dirt on the strings from your fingers. Or not winding the strings correctly.
Keep the strings clean and use some oil in the nut everytime you change strings and see if that helps. If you're not having a problem and just prefer Schallers, then that's fine, but the Pings are really pretty good tuners. |

Location: SoCal | Slop, what kind of preamp to you have in your guitar now? If it's an older one, a newer preamp can make a huge difference plugged in.
I've got an Adamas I 12 string with an OP24 in it. My Glen Campbell 12 string had an OP40 in it (installed at the factory) and had a much better plugged in sound that the Adamas 12.
I've got the OP40 that came out of that guitar when it went to the factory for a new body (it's now got a straight out p/u with no controls on the body) and would be willing to sell it. There's also one on ebay right now. |

Location: Hicksville, NY | Most of the high-end Ovations that I have seen have Schaller tuners. The standard ones are equipped with Ping -- whatever they are. Most ppl here prefer the schallers, but the Pings do just fine IMO.
I don't know much about preamps, but I do like the Op Pro that most new Ovations are equipped with. My old balladeer came with an Op24+ and it was more than enough to make that shallow bowl guitar come alive. I have a shallow custom legend now that comes with the optima preamp, and it's much better sounding than my balladeer. |

Location: Some where Over the rainbow | Sounds like I should just keep saving for the 30th(Adamas) editon, I love that guitar it is so pretty. Has anyone hear played one or have one, what do you thiink? Is it nice does it play well? Just curious. JOE>
P.S. Can you send Ovations back to them to have other things done to them like custom work? |
