| This interview from 2000 is interesting, especially when Glen talks about his guitar playing, including his use of capos. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, the guitar part starts at about 4:18. I don't know what model Ovation he's playing other than it's a shallow bowl with epaulets. He sings Wichita Lineman at the end.

Didn't Martha Stewart say that? I've also referenced the Matthew Quigley quote before (about the Colt revolver) in regard to my own personal use of a capo. "I said, ' I never had much use for one.' I never said I didn't know how to use it." I still do use the capo in the music therapy sessions with my friend/mentor, Bruce, to some degree, but not always. I just learned how to play without it at some point, but I've got at least 2 of them floating around somewhere when I need them." It's better to have something, and not need it, than to need something, and not have it." (My Former Pastor.) Bruce uses a capo more often than I do, especially for CCW. Is it okay to shun the use of a capo for Bass guitar? I've never used a capo on my bass guitar at any point in time.

Eastwood Guitars of CANADA still continues to sell its Ovation Magnum Bass, Ultra GP and Breadwinner clones, but with an added twist for 2022, the site now shows a Breadwinner Electric Sitar, similar to the old Coral Electric Sitar from the 1970's, I guess. Stranger things have happened already.

I just saw the, "new Applause Jump guitars", on YT. To quote my fellow Canadian, Shania Twain, "That don't impress me much." God save us from such stupidity. And to also quote my late Dad, who said, back in the day, "New isn't always better." Now it seems we're just another average copycat guitar company, and Charlie and Bill did all that advanced research work for different guitar technology, from 1966 to now, for nothing?! No wonder Bill left. Charlie must be spinning in his grave.

I have also seen other ads and agree that it is much like the last little pop from what was otherwise a stupendous fireworks display. That's definitely how us old veterans see it. As for GEWA, on the other hand, they get up every morning and pull on their boots to make profit, and I am strongly supposing they will sell every unit to customers who play on that level. No doubt aimed at the young European market, and I hope they do well with it. I'm at least glad they ran it under the Applause label and not the Ovation name. Hopefully they have something better in store for that (if ever). |

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO ALL THE USA OFC MEMBERS! On one of my Cable TV channels here in OTTAWA, CANADA, Stingray Music is a site called Country Classics. They show an album cover display of every song before and after they are played, and this morning Glen Campbell's "LEGACY", album showed up, with a 2016 GC Artist RI as part of the album cover! Unbeknownst to the people in the peanut gallery, this alone speaks volumes, and is a real LEGACY, if there ever was one for Glen as a guitar player. Again, Happy Fourth, Y'all!

My cable TV/Sirius Radio channel here in Ottawa Ontario CANADA continues to show OVATION ADAMAS/ ELITE GUITAR EPAULETS on displays of many of the artist's album covers. Last week, an entirely purple album cover, with the guitars mentioned above epaulets in the background, was shown, the artist was named "Billy Andrusco, " and the album was titled" Memories". Correct me if I'm wrong again, but if BEAL designed the original ADAMAS/ Elite guitar epaulets with Charlie in 1976, it almost 70 years later, continues to be a stroke of genius on their part.

It seems to be a thing now in The Great White North because, wait for it, yet another OVATION ADAMAS /ELITE epaulets top picture was used on an all-green album cover on my Country Classics cable station yesterday, this time for, "Would you believe?'...a TANYA TUCKER album!! Insert Allison Morrissette's, "Ironic", here. The powers that be on this station apparently missed that part of the equation, and no, you can't make this stuff up. However, those of us in the OFC know of a cultural icon when we see one. As we say here in CANADA, " Beauty, eh?" |

There seems to be some kind of Algorithm on my cable channels for OVATION/ADAMAS guitars because they show up there every week now. This time it was a long shot of an older OVATION Balladeer with the 3-D rosette on an album cover, "100 Country Classics", by 101 Strings. I'm unsure who the brainchild of all this OVATION/ADAMAS guitar worship was/is, but maybe it's just Mr. Roboto after all? It's good to see that our guitars are still getting some exposure in a new and unexpected fashion.

I rediscovered the ADAMAS Guitar pick on the Jim Dunlop USA site recently. I thought these picks were/are discontinued, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I also live in CANADA, and may not be able to get this particularly unique item, because...? CANADA POST IS GOING ON STRIKE AGAIN!!! And yes, even if there was no postal strike here, I'd still have to pay an arm, a leg, and my kidney to get them. Does anybody at OFC use these picks? I do believe Gerry Garcia did at one point. Any thoughts/advice on this from OFC members would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in Advance.

They are stiff and seem slick. I generally prefer picks in the .8 to 1.0 mm thickness. The Adamas are 2mm thick. For quick lead guitar runs they are probably really good, but that isn't my skill set! |
