Hi!
2 Quick questions:
1. I have an Adamas 12 string (model 1888 in solid Blue); I don't really use 12 strings, although I love the sound! Can I use it with 6 strings? Or If I do the spacing at the bridge is going to be all weird and uneven?
Please help or suggest... I am a bass player, I don't know much about Guitars, especially 12 string Guitars!

2. is there anybody who refinishes and paints Adamas guitars with Textured Tops? I have a Black one that I would love to convert into solid blue...any ideas?

Text me if you wish, as I dont really log in this website

Thanks indeed!

1) Sure. Just run all of the strings through the lower holes in the bridge, and slots on the nut.
If you are serious about keeping it that way, you could get a 6-string nut at 1-7/8".

2)

Suggestion:
Q1. Trade the 12 for a 6
Q2. Trade the black for a blue.

I agree with trading it for a 6-string. Maybe someone that wants a 12-string and has an extra 6-string equal to what you need. Once you remove the tension of 12 down to 6 strings, now the neck relief will need attention, bridges, etc. Why do it?

I think some 12-stings have heavier bracing to support the extra tension, which may take away some of the potential sound. Not sure how specific bracing differences for Adamas would be. If I was proud owner of a 12 string Adamas I would keep as is and enjoy the 12 strings, and get a six string in addition to that ....

Hello Lalo,

Why do you want to play like six? I admit myself, I needed to adjust my way to play. I used to pick from up to down, but the octave strings are up, so either I picked them from down to up, or played the normal string and its octave at the same time. If playability is a problem, get Thomastik Plectrum strings, besides beautiful tone, allow you to play faster, and slide better your left hand, for the flatwounds strings. As I know, if you put only six strings in a twelver, you risk to damage the structure of guitar, because they´re designed to stand for a 12 string tension. I´ve read a non Adamas 12 string needed to repair after spmeone used it as six.

Laughed myself stupid over that one.

OMA = Old Man Arthur. He's a legend around here (although, a Legend may be one of the few Ovations he doesn't own).

1. What is an 1888, I could not find much about this guitar.
2. I´m very fond of 12strings, have a nice 2087. Interested?
3. 12string guitars played with 6 strings never sound good.

Hi
I have 12 Adamas including the black one 2087. I do appreciate the offer, besides your guitar is way more expensive than my 12 string!
An 1888-8 is a Shallow Bowl 12 string in Solid Blue with an OP24 preamp. Textured top...beautiful instrument but nos as fancy as yours! I indeed appreciate the offer and THANK YOU for it!
OMA also gave me a few great suggestions; I used the 12 string with 6 strings yesterday after I emailled Ovation, it sounded GREAT!!! So may be I will stick to that until I find a 6 string 1881-nb8... which I have been looking for 2 years!
Thanks to everyone!

Arthur may be peaceful and spiritual, but we were just kidding about his guitar painting abilities.
