This MGR store in Littleton, CO is willing to take my 2005 Collector's in trade for this 1768 plus $150. I was wondering if anyone here is close enough that they could stop by and give an unbiased, hands-on opinion for me?

Stephen (T28) lives in Littleton and might be willing to help but I believe he's traveling this weekend. Shoot him a pm and see if he's getting online at all.

Why would you want to trade a superior top and sound for a 1768 elite....plus pay an additional amount for the guitar that has (IMHO an inferior sound.?

I can check it out for you when I get back in town next week but not sure why you would want to do this trade.

(ooops...just noticed I am using Beal's account by mistake....but this is T28).

Yowza! The trouble I could stir up if I had access to Beal's account.

Just be patient. I finally got a chance to play an 05 this summer and was very impressed. It will move back up to the top of my "must have" list if I quit putting other stuff up there. Initially I didn't like the contour bowls, but I was noticing that they seem to fit me better lately. I need to fix that problem, too.

You guys really think the 05C is that much better than a 1768? Maybe I do need to rethink this.

I don't know if it's "that much better" than a 1768, but it sure doesn't seem like you are upgrading, and I can't disagree with Stephen's opinion that it's a downgrade. When I joined this forum the 05 was the talk. Of course, it was in 05, so the timing was right.
A lot of people here raved about the 07 a couple years ago, too, but I played the 05 and 07 on the same day, under noisey conditions, and liked the 05 better. Maybe I'm just a centerhole guy.

I've said to nosajwp since day 1 that he's making a mistake.

I had an '05C and a mint 1768 at the same time. One of them had to go to fund the Folklore.

I kept the '05. Much as I loved the 1768, (it actually had a better neck) there was really no contest.

I bought my 1768 in 2005 for $525USD. If I were you, I'd keep the '05 and find the money to buy an elite.

If someone had offered me an '05 PLUS $150USD for the 1768, I'd have taken the deal in a heartbeat and looked around the house for anything else I could talk the sucker into buying.

And thanks Clive.

I might be able to get out to try it for you but, I can't compare it to your guitar so I would only be able to tell you basics about the guitar from my perspective. Where is it?

I agree with muzza... Keep the '05 and work out a payment plan for the Elite.(even a layaway would be worth it in the end) It's time to get started on the collection ... you've put off the inevitable for waaay too long.

Just now read this thread. I live in Littleton and played the 1768, but wasn't too impressed, although the strings seemed old and dead. It was in good shape though and played nice, I even thought of buying it. I see it's been sold.
