I am very new to this site, so here goes. I am looking for an extremely early (1972 or earlier) model 1617. I'm not sure the first year they started making the 1617, but I think that is close. Also, must be the acoustic/electric version in tobacco sunburst finish. I'm picky, I know. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey, thanks for the production date on that! The seller said the top has a crack in it too, so I think I will keep looking. I really am looking for a '72 anyway. Thanks much!

So what is the dash at the end of the model for? I have seen -1 and -4. How is a 1617-1 is different from 1617-4?

Jeromes site is an amazing resource. I wish that Miles would run a link to both the Ovationtribute site and Dave's Ovationserial number site.

Ok, I bought a 1617-1, but I don't know how old it is. I paid $300 for it. I think it may be a 1970's model but not sure. Serial number is 058417 if anyone can help with a vintage on it! Also, I have a broken pizo bridge pickup that I need to replace, so if anyone has an extra, let me know!! Thanks!

Looks like a 1975. For future reference, click on Links on the left, hit the ovation.com link or just go to ovation.com. Click on Ovation Features, Cracking the Ovation Code on the drop down menu. Then click on 6 digit series. That gives you the list of serial numbers and years.
