FYI, here's a 1537 on ebay right now (I'm not the seller). This is the one we saw awhile ago with the red strip binding. It's removable. Dave

fguki, why do you think $800 is a high price for a 1537? I'm with Dave on the value of this guitar.

I have to chime in with Dave and Paul. Put the M or T name on the headstock and people would be paying $2500 or more to get the sound and playability of the 1537.

$1200 - 1500 is a good deal on one of Ovations best.

I agree with you guys, but the one that had the updated preamp went for $685 this weekend on ebay. I don't know if people didn't realize what it was or they didn't like the modified preamp.

Never seen that one Mark...Sounds like the perfect guitar. From what I hear, the 1537 is the ultimate acoustic guitar, but the electronics don't do it justice.

Man, I played a BR160 (blueridge) for about an hour at an out of town music shop...it sure had a sweet thump to her...so did most of the other Blueridges I played.

I was surprised to notice very little drop off in tone from the solid Rosewood models, to the Rosewood laminate cheaper models. Nice acoustic guitars!!!

$1200-$1500? On eBay? No way!

This guitar is unlikely to get any bids. What the guitar may be worth and what it can fetch on eBay are two different things. The guitar is in very nice, but not mint condition. The listing doesn't state if he will ship outside of the US. That may be his best, or perhaps only chance to get his price.

I have to get one of these. Unfortunately, now is not the time. I just bought a 1773 Classic LX so I'm tapped out for the near future.

Sorry Norsey, but no.

My personal favorite guitar, the 1619 CL, is presently at the factory for a complete overhaul and new electronics. Once I get it back, the 1537 is going in for neck, fret and some cosmetic work. If all goes as planned, I'll pick it up at the '06 OFC Tour.

Thanks to the stellar investigative work by Mr. Moody regarding the total number of 1537's made, I realize that the 1537 is a real keeper and not be be sold unless you have more than one.

My 1537 cost $450 (eBay). I expect to pay about that same amount for the factory work. If Dave, Paul & Mark are correct about the value, I'll have a nice factory re-conditoned, very early serial number 1537 for a lot less that what the guitar is worth.

Since I'm not selling mine, I really shouldn't care what the value is, but the market seems to have dropped a bit since last summer. As usual, I buy high and don't sell. If I had your 1537, Mitch, I'd do the same thing. It's a bird in your hand and it may be very difficult to replace it with something as good.

Let's see, I bought my 1537 in '93, and have had it almost 13 years. I paid $750 for it which comes out to $57.69 per year. Seems like a bargin to me.

I honestly don't care where the market on 1537's go. To replace it with a new, comparable guitar, I'd have to spend $2k at least. It's been worth every penny I spent on it.

Paul, I'm sure you could sell it for $750, which would bring your annual cost to zero. Doesn't sound like that's going to happen, but it looks like an even better bargain that way.
