I originally was going to sell my beloved 1989 Legend 1756 12 with two nasty finish cracks because I didn't play acoustic 12 so much anymore and I couldn't stand to look at the cracks. I decided to send it to Mother, who did such an amazing job I decided I couldn't part with it. They replaced the entire top/bowl. Now, many months later, I still don't play it much, and I would love to have a 6 string that plays this well and sounds as good. So...it's not original, but with the exception of the finish on the original gold tuners, it's mint. I am definitely a center hole guy, and play both fingerstyle and flatpicking. Non-O's (gasp!) are also under consideration. The photos are from the ning site, which also shows the guitar before repair.

All these great guitars for sale and I'm trapped by the 1-out, 1-in rule, with nothing I'm currently willing to part with. I MAY end up putting my Acoustic Bass on the block when I can no longer stand the GAS.

The only thing I would have done differently on the rebuild would have been to put in a modern style OP preamp. That way it's always upgradeable. But having said that, this would be a great 12 string for anybody's collection. I would be interested except I've already got a couple of 12's. Also, you never mentioned how much you are asking for it. Or did I miss that?

I agree I probably should have paid extra for the newer OP preamp (they refurbed/replaced the old electronics under warranty) but the Op-24 is still a very clean, great sounding preamp. It's true I didn't say how much in the original posting. How does one value what is really a new guitar with a fantastic vintage neck? It's also not a true 1756 anymore with the X-bracing and the thinner top and finish, but the 1756 was never really a "collector's" guitar. It definitely sounds better now--it is clearer and much more resonant than the original. And I don't need to tell OFCers how nicely a 12-string freshly set up by Mother plays. :) I think a fair trade value would be $950, but neither this guitar nor a potential trade with the same value could sell for anywhere near that, especially right now. That's why I'm looking to trade, not sell, although I would entertain reasonable offers. Thanks!

I am presently considering a pretty guitar that has significant scraping, with even some splintering on the front near the waist. Not a good 'boo-boo'! The seller's photos did not really reveal the extent of the damage. I asked for a high resolution photo and having see nit now, I am a bit disturbed by how bad it really is. Cosmetics is one thing, but .... thanks for your input. ;)

There are some threads about "mothership" repairs in the general posting section that would give you and idea for other types of repair. If they don't have to replace the entire top/bowl, it would be a good bit less. Good luck!

It seems like all the OFCers are well stocked for 12s, but I'll keep this up here awhile longer. BTW, does anyone know how to change the thread title? I'd like to take "feeler" off. Thanks! Andy
