Location: Augusta, GA | Hey guys...I'm about to buy a new electric and need some help. Anybody got any feedback on Hamer Les Paul types: mainly Hamer Studio and Hamer Mirage---compared to a Heritage Les Paul (Model H140CM)--I'm choosing between used versions of the 3 mentioned guitars. Of the 3 I've actually played the Hamer Mirage and I love it--but I just want to be sure I'm getting the best guitar for my money. They are all about the same price--but I've never played a Hamer Studio or a Heritage Les Paul...but I hear great things. Can any of you guys help?

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Forget the "Heritage" and buy a Hamer. But why do you want to buy something you never played? Go to one of these online stores with the 45 day money back guarantee, order them and then return them. Maybe your local Guitar Center will do it for you and you can return them that day and then negotiate with them to give you whatever is the price you're looking for. |

Location: Maryland, USA | You could always try an Orville Gibson, the quality is supposed to be a little bit higher than the lower end Gibsons currently. (meaning like Les Paul studios, not epiphones)
They were kind of like the OLD Squier, which were licensed copies and used to be VERY good. |

Location: New York, NY | I agree that you should buy what you've played. That being said, I played one Heritage les paul type (don't remember which one) and it was really nice! I'd suggest you try to play one before you buy the Hammer... though the Hammers are really nice!

Location: Minden, Nebraska | I have tried all of them, and I like the parts and craftsmanship on the Hamer better than Heritage, and I do like Heritage guitars. The 140 level is simply not as nice as a Studio or a Mirage. As to the Hamers, the main difference between the two is that the Mirage has a slightly different body shape and comes with a trem instead of either a wraparound or t-o-m/stop bar tailpiece (depending on the year). I think the Hamer Studio is one of the best guitars of its ilk for the money, and the Mirage is a variation of it. What CWK said! |

Location: Maryland, USA | I wish I've been able to play a USA Hamer, but the only store near me that carries them isn't primarily a guitar store, and only orders the korean ones (and the less expensive korean ones at that). They won't order a USA Hamer unless pre-ordered or something similar. |

How would you compare the tone to other guitars--I keep hearing people say it's stratlike...but I didn't think so, maybe they're talking about the single coil models--the one I'm looking at has got humbuckers. To you is it more les paulish or stratish...or maybe something else? |

Definitely LP. I have a Mirage II, which has a double cutaway mahogany body, carved flame maple top, finished in transparent red. Sperzel locking tuners and a Wilkinson trem. Two Seymour Duncan humbuckers, a JB and a 59. I like to think of it as my Les Paul killer, in that it does everything an LP does, but beyond a very few it is better in every way. Unless you're hung up on a brand name. ;)
There was a Mirage model that came with a Koa top and three single coils. I suspect that would be the model that are strat-like. |

Location: Augusta, GA | Thanks Guys...the one I'm looking at is the two humbuckers, and it to me was definately paulish--but then I started reading a bunch of stuff that was saying it was more like a strat...should have just trusted my gut. |
