Will I need a notch filter?

My Gibson Songwriter Deluxe has one and it has come in handy. Will I need it on the Ovation? It seems like Fishman puts it on their stuff standard and Ovation dumped it after the Optima preamp. Any thoughts? I am curious about the new preamp Ovation wouldn't tell us about that had a bell and whistle. Will it be coming out this summer? Wonder if they've added a notch to it?

Last June I bought an adamas with a notch filter. Well, I can play my acoustic much louder, but playing at volume with an acoustic is only secondary for me. The pros on this board would probably say that a stand alone should be your primary filter, with the on board notch being secondary. It all depends where you play, I guess very small venues the onboard notch will be fine, anything larger you'll probably need a stand alone.

Of course, all my prior gigs I never needed to use the one in my Optimas. Now that all my O's have the OP pro, feedback seems to be an issue. Just freakin' lovely!

We play fairly loud and whenever I got too close to the monitors (less than 4ft) or the bass amp (less than 6ft), it was howl city. I tried a rubber soundhole insert with some success. The ultimate fix was an LR Baggs Para-acoustic DI which has both the notch filter and the phase switch that are absent from the OP-PRO.

What else is analogous in your mind, Dave? Connecting Dave's dots could be a fascinating, full time occupation.

No Does a NF add cost? Yes Is a NF a benefit in certain situations? Yes Is Paul Temp an expert on NFs? Yes Now read those questions and responses again, substituting "Boob Job" for "NF".

I never really understood the purpose of the notch filter until Dave's analogy, but then I've given a lot more thought to why women have or don't have boob jobs than I have given to notch filters.
