Location: Flushing, MI | Is there such a thing? I just got a message from the seller of the Matrix that I won from ebay, and he mentioned that it had "plastic strings" on it. So, I'm wondering if someone actually put nylon strings on a steel string guitar.
Either way, I don't care. I wouldn't mind having a nylon string guitar around the house either. |

A nylon stringer would've been cool. I've always wanted an Ovation nylon stringer.
Well, I reckon it's better than buying a nylon string guitar only to find out that they strung it up with bronzewounds! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | A nylon string with an aluminum neck might sound kind of wierd. I'd put some D'Addario lights on there. They sound great on mine, with a little bit of a metallic twang. Then look at one of the Ovations that was designed for nylon strings. I never thought much of nylon string guitars because I never found one that projected much until I found my 1713. Love it. The cedar top sounds very mellow and the guitar is simply beautiful. |

I'd love to see a picture of it if you get around to it. You too Mark. Looking at the picture of mine and a pic of a matrix aluminem fretboard Applause on e-bay, I think my fretboard is wood and the neck is aluminum.

BTW - this is one of the best boards I've ever been on. The humor and camaraderie is terrific! I have found myself reading every day.

Location: Massachusetts | Yup, this place has tons of info. My curiosity has been sated for the nonce and I do love playing this guitar sooooo much. I get up earlier than I used to so I can play it before I go to work.
This is some info I've gleaned from the vault.
"Matrix was made in the late 70s and early 80s. It had an aluminum neck with a rosewood fingerboard. There is a binding that goes around the body and then goes over the top of the guitar about 1\8th of an inch. The aluminum neck is covered with some brown composite material that doesn't get cold when the aluminum neck does. "
"The rosewood board was a later variant & that neck I think became the neck of the early Ultra guitars. The first Matrix or Medallion models had an aluminium fingerboard with integral frets. This could not be re-fretted and the idea was that when the frets wore out the guitar would be returned to a service centre for a new neck."
I believe I have a later variant ... but now I want to try the aluminum fretboard!!! I think a friend of mine has the old Applause w/ aluminum neck... where's his number??.......
