Is there such a thing? I just got a message from the seller of the Matrix that I won from ebay, and he mentioned that it had "plastic strings" on it. So, I'm wondering if someone actually put nylon strings on a steel string guitar.

Either way, I don't care. I wouldn't mind having a nylon string guitar around the house either.

"Matching Bowl and Strings" must have been a special order option. Dave

Hope they didn't file out the slots in the nut to fit the wider strings. If not, it might play kinda funny.

In other words I need to go down to the music store and buy a set of bronzewounds to put on there?

A nylon stringer would've been cool. I've always wanted an Ovation nylon stringer.

Well, I reckon it's better than buying a nylon string guitar only to find out that they strung it up with bronzewounds!

A nylon string with an aluminum neck might sound kind of wierd. I'd put some D'Addario lights on there. They sound great on mine, with a little bit of a metallic twang. Then look at one of the Ovations that was designed for nylon strings. I never thought much of nylon string guitars because I never found one that projected much until I found my 1713. Love it. The cedar top sounds very mellow and the guitar is simply beautiful.

Trago, Might try some silknsteels on it if you want that sound. If not go get the phosphor/bronze. You'll be happy with it.

Hey Trag,

I'd love to see a picture of it if you get around to it. You too Mark. Looking at the picture of mine and a pic of a matrix aluminem fretboard Applause on e-bay, I think my fretboard is wood and the neck is aluminum.
Applause on E-bay

so much to learn here.
BTW - this is one of the best boards I've ever been on. The humor and camaraderie is terrific! I have found myself reading every day.

Thanks Guys
Alan

Mine is aluminum, like the Applause. I noticed yours seems like it's wood. I assume they must have changed or somebody changed yours. Some day I'll get some pics posted. Been waiting until I get a 1537.

Yup, I'm here every day now, at least checking in. This place, and you fine folks, remind me of the atmosphere over at the Telecaster Discussion Page Re-Issue message board (telecaster.com). A bunch of friendly pickers over there too.

Glad to be here, and I think I'll stay around awhile!

BTW - as long as I've been hangin' out on guitar message boards, I STILL can't post photos. Anyone care to educate me, feel free to shoot me a PM or email. Thank you.

Yup, this place has tons of info. My curiosity has been sated for the nonce and I do love playing this guitar sooooo much. I get up earlier than I used to so I can play it before I go to work.

This is some info I've gleaned from the vault.

"Matrix was made in the late 70s and early 80s. It had an aluminum neck with a rosewood fingerboard. There is a binding that goes around the body and then goes over the top of the guitar about 1\8th of an inch. The aluminum neck is covered with some brown composite material that doesn't get cold when the aluminum neck does. "

"The rosewood board was a later variant & that neck I think became the neck of the early Ultra guitars. The first Matrix or Medallion models had an aluminium fingerboard with integral frets. This could not be re-fretted and the idea was that when the frets wore out the guitar would be returned to a service centre for a new neck."

I believe I have a later variant ... but now I want to try the aluminum fretboard!!! I think a friend of mine has the old Applause w/ aluminum neck... where's his number??.......

Trag,

At the top of the page is a button to post a reply. When you open that, there are Graemlins under the post area. One of the Graemlins is a button that says image. I have a web site (like Geocities or AOL) and there are pics stored there.
Click on the image button and paste or type the location on the web where you have your pics and the name of the pic. Ex:
http://www.geocities.com/alansir99/dianneAlan.jpg

Then it'll show up here. Just remember it has to live on a web server before you can post it here.

Hope that helps
Alan
