At the risk of tormenting myself by inviting opinions on this, I need to ask:

Is the fingerboard extension on an Adamas I supposed to be attached absolutely flush with the top, or is a narrow gap normal? I can slide a 1.0mm pick between the fingerboard and the top on my pristine looking 1994 1587. It doesn't go all the way through; it stops about halfway. So the fingerboard is definitely attached to the top, just not at the edges.

I've hunted down pics and seen examples of both. My inclination is to think it's normal to have a slight gap. What is the expert judgment on this?

Thanks -

The fingerboard should "float" . . .

It's supposed to be that way. It allows more of the top to vibrate.

If it "bothers" you, a 1" sheetrock screw'll hold it down nicely . . .

I was thinking about just pushing down on it really hard to make it "stick." (NOT)

The screw has been used, as has silicone sealer and other attempts to fix what isn't broken. It is designed to be free of the top as Cliff said the first time. If someone doesn't appreciate Cliff's sarcasm and screws the fretboard down, he or she probably deserves to have ridicule and scorn heaped on.

Don't feel bad Roger. I asked the same question a few years back after I got my Adamas II.

Guess I better remove that lag bolt from the 21st fret...

The extension on my AII is off the top on the bass side, but the treble side is in contact. I figure it warped. Maybe I should send it to cliffster for remediation. Or maybe Jeffro could come up with some medieval fix. :D

You only need a 1/2" screw, you don't want all that extra weight!

A case of "screwing up" the neck rather than screwing it down.

Yep, wonderful job of ignorance and incompetence...guess the former owner thought it was peeling up. First came into the OFC from an eBay auction. Then, a couple of OFC'ers had it before I got it. Fortunately, taking out the screw...returned to the proper position. Repaired with a walnut plug...wonderful playing guitar.

Not sure where it is now, I sent to to Stephen T-28 1/05.

Then CWK2 took pity on me...I now have the finest 1537 that I have ever played.

Course, before we have others saying their guitars are better, I played others. (They say ignorance is bliss)
